View Full Version : Looking For New Bands...Need Help

I'm trying to find some new rock to metal style bands to listen to. I'm looking for metal bands more so but, if it's a good hard rock band I won't be complaining. Here are some main requirements so I don't have to try and figure them out all myself with every band you give me.

I don't want to listen to any bands who are satanic...I can do regular secular groups but I have my limits. I don't want to be given any screamo or metalcore bands. With metalcore it's not the music that bothers me, it's the death growling you can't understand that bugs me. If they scream some as an accent to the song, I can deal with that though...like what Pillar does, or the old 12 Stones did.

To give you a better idea of the type of singers I like, here are several videos with my favorite vocalists. They are ranked from best to worst.

Chad Kroeger of Nickelback

http://youtube.com/watch?v=drcCC5Hsojs

Sully Erna of Godsmack

http://youtube.com/watch?v=hyc2MuyUC5k

Corey Taylor of Stone Sour and Slipknot

http://youtube.com/watch?v=xJzE1m9aELk

James Hetfield of Metallica

http://youtube.com/watch?v=sZtszXnG11E

So obviously you can tell I prefer male singers, who actually sound like men when they sing.

Musically I like diversity in the music...but I'm more willing to judge that on my own.

Here's a short list of some of my favorite bands

Metallica
Pillar
Megadeth
Chevelle
Godsmack
Nickelback
Stone Sour
Slipknot

Chimaira perhaps? They are a bit lame, but hey, it's a progression.

And PTH is pretty much one of the greatest things in the popular music scene these days.

Those bands only have clean vocals.

And joking aside, he might actually like Overcast.

OKokok. Most of these guys are throwing you in the deep end.

You probably want to start with some power metal or thrash, (mostly) clean vocals, and lots of fun to listen to.

Iron Maiden (if you havn't yet listened to them...)
Dream Theater
Pantera
Kamelot
Blind Guardian
Cacophony
Slayer
Children of Bodom
And yeah, try out some Protest the Hero

Go!

Children of Bodom

Go!

LOL....I see where you put (mostly) clean vocals, but Children of Bodom?? I love em, but they are far from being clean vocals at all.

To add, Godsmack was the band that got me started on the hard rock scene and brought me to the metal scene. For some good quality bands I'd recommend

Tarot (Marco Hietala is a god)
Lost Horizon (Power Metal at its best)

um....I am not a big fan of some of these guys but you could always check out

Sevendust
Killswitch Engage
Trivium
Breaking Benjamin

Again, with the exception of Breaking Benjamin, I am not a fan of those other bands, but from what I can tell you like, those are good places to start.

Riva

Well, since you want vocalists who sound like men when they sing, ignore 99% of these suggestions.

In fact, go for Tarot and (The Lord Weird) Slough Feg, and see what you think.

Im pretty sure thread starter would enjoy some Nonpoint. All* of their albums are solid.

Also, I can recommend Therapy?, The Wildhearts and Grand Magus, as some excellent hard rock bands.

Nickelback is by fart the Sh*tiest band in the world. Godsmack is just gayer than AIDS. Slipknot is just a bunch of downtuned guitars with guys hitting tin cans. Metallica is the only one on the list that is good.

Why don't you go do yourself a favor and buy some Between the Buried and Me, Opeth, Baroness, Slayer, Avenged Sevenfold, Arch Enemy, and Darkest Hour because what you are listening to now sounds worse than one of my big fat nutty turds hitting the toilet water.

Wow, all the nu-metal's been covered. If you want some new-metal type music that's pioneering listen to Today is the day - Supernova, Willpower. These two albums somehow slipped by everyones attention, don't let the same happen to you. This is one awesome conceptual noise metal band at least during it's beginning stages.
