is math rock. I mean I don't get it. Is it supposed to be a bunch of calculator beeps and guys screaming their asses off or is it some stupid term some stupid music junkie thought would sound cool? I mean, just curious. It sounds pretty dumb to me.

It's probably the result of journalistic writing. I think you are missing the point. It's not mathy because of math-related things like calculators being used in the music. It's mathy because of changing time signatures and tempos. However, this point is so retarded that I imagine you may be somebody just joking about not getting it. But then again you have 1664 posts. But then again that doesn't mean you're not an idiot. Oh ya you're from Mobile.

I don't know. I just think certain names for genres sound gay. But that's just me. Yeah.

Wait are you talki9ng about "math metal" or math rock? There's a difference between old DEP and **** like Dysrhythmia and the like. Math metal can be fun but math rock is boring, either way it's a lame term and both styles are overly pretentious.

Haha you listen to Disrhythmia. I like the label they're on. They sent me some free stuff for sputnik reviewing that I haven't been able to get to yet because I'm at school. I really like Ganon and Rothko. Check that stuff out. Ganon is sort of Isis like and Rothko is much more sparse and ambient.

Anyways, i don't think that it's a bullpoop genre.
But then again, that's coming from a guy whose favorite genres are Power-Violence, Fastcore, Acid Jazz, and Avant-progressive rock.

Why in the nine hells would you create such stupid names for subgenres? I think music critics get too liberal with the use of new labels.

Some specific labels are more respected than others. Some Power-violence bands consider it as a movement, especially Spazz and Man is the B@stard.

I think music critics using it more as a way to be creative with their writing rather than be very formal in the way they label genres/subgenres. Think about emo. It's a shortened form of "emotional hardcore." Nobody doubts that plain hardcore is massively emotional. However, journalists took the liberty of making a story out of a cultural movement in 1984 and as part of it ended up giving labels, whether appropriate or not.
