I liked Miss Machine as well.
This album is just them playing Panasonic Youth at various speeds, with a lot of interludes with tacky "industrial drumming" and regurgitated hooks. There's maybe one or two good or at least semi-decent tracks.

Ya it was a pimp album. But they had their influences in mind more so than in any of their other albums. Miss Machine was the product of an enflamed ego and the "math-metal" and "calcules-core" and "dy(dx=df(x))dx-core" labels. Which turned them into a surprising mix of mainstream "emo" and "epilepsy-core". But Dmitri was the better vocalist for the group, and they were much cooler when they were idolizing Mahavishnu Orchestra, and Cynic

I don't really see the perspective that DEP needs to repeat Calculating to be "great" again. It is a good album, but you can only do so much with the "HEY IM SHOUTING RIGHT OFF THE BAT WITH CHROMATIC CHORD PROGRESSIONS AND FURIOUS DRUMS" sound.
You can say the same with Miss Machine doing the 7/4 BAP BAP BAPBAPBAP kind of sound, but it's kind of unfair to say Calc was groundbreaking and superior because it just followed a formula, whether or not you like it more than Miss or now Ire Works.
SubtleDagger

Calculating Infinity is (was, i never know which of these two words to put) a really good album, Miss Machine was really good as well i thought, had a couple of songs which were trying to be a bit more mainstream appealling (Setting fire to sleeping giants and Unretrofied but those songs own, especially the breakdown bits) and Sunshine the Werewolf is pretty serious business.
The new album i can't really get into though, the only song I actually like that much is Black Bubblegum and that's only because it has a catchy riff. Most people like the song "lurch" but that song sounds like a guy masturbating and never reaching climax
