I've had some major GAS for a Fender Jazz lately. I've narrowed it down to either a Geddy Lee or a American Jazz. I've never found anything that special about the pups in the Geddy Lee, but I'm in love with the neck. So I would probably end up changing them to something else. Maybe the same for the American Jazz, who knows. What do you guys think?

The Geddy Lee Jazz means you don't have to replace the piece of **** bridge they put on the standard fenders.

The onyl thing that bothers me about the Geddy Lee is I've heard of the thruss rod getting maxed out.

Yeah the neck is *too* thin

Edit: And I'll try and get some muff recordings up soon :thumb:

they don't put a piece of **** bridge on the MIA. It's not as nice as the BAII, but it is better than the MIM.

I'd go MIA Jazz over Geddy any day of the week.

I'd go with the American jazz. If you like Geddy's neck go for, it really isn't as bad as people say.

I thought of finding a Geddy neck on Ebay and maybe putting it on the American body, but then again it's pretty tough to find just the neck laying around. And plus half the cost of the American jazz is because of the neck.

Did you look for the same inlays on a maple neck, or for the exact same neck as geddy?

Livewire
10-31-2007, 12:49 PM
I like the neck because it's thin... Not for the inlays.

There can't be a huge difference, the jazz neck is pretty thin to begin with...

Well not all fenders come with the maple neck...Shut up, it made sense in my head :p

Why not god for the Geddy then, it's cheaper than the jazz. The necks really aren't that bad for truss and tension and all that jazz. Get a new neck if you have to down the road.

I don't know. I guess I'll have to see which I like more at GC. But damn this looks sexy:

Very. I still prefer white pickguards for some reason.

I own a geddy. I love everything about it and would reccomend it any day over an MIA.
It's sexy, cheaper, the neck is killer for speed, & the vintage tone outta the pickups tops the cake.

Does it come in white? :naughty:

The truss rod from my Geddy is solid, you wont have a problems. I read somewhere that Geddy necks won't fit into other bodies other than Geddy Lee basses.

I believe this is true as well.

Since the geddy is cij, it would only fit into other fenders made in japan. I don't know how much alteration there would have to be to fit it on a different body.

I don't like the Geddy. Feel, tone (one of the pickups is moved a bit, too), the whole package. However, I LOVE MIA Jazz basses.

That effin sucks man. Ugh... I'll have to try both out.

I am actually trying to get a jazz too. lol
And I am also between a Geddy and a MIA jazz.
I like both, but I prefer the Bad *** bridge on the Geddy for sustain. One the Geddy, the neck is comfy and fast. I don't know why some people complain about the neck being too thin. It's really not that bad.

I recommend a Geddy Lee jazz; that's what I am probably going to get too.

So, you WANT the Geddy neck but you hadn't tried it before? Smooth.

There isn't that much difference, really.

EDIT: Regarding the bridge, really, it's just a bridge. Let me say that again; it's just a bridge. Who cares?

I've tried the Geddy before dude. I'm not that much of an idiot... I meant I'll have to try them both at the same time and compare.

I'd go for the american just because I think Marcus Miller is the only one who can get away with charging more for a bass for a signature.

That said, Im not sure about the "geddy necks not fitting on other basses" bit. One of our old members, Mr_Soup, has since fitted his Geddy Lee with the neck of an 80's fretless fender jazz special.

I played a Geddy before, and I assume that the string spacing on a Geddy is the same as on any other Fender jazz, right?

Radiobass81

Yup.

PrimalConcreteSledge
11-01-2007, 04:14 PM
Yup.

If that's the case, then I don't know why some people hate it. The thin neck was designed for quickness. lol.

Like I said, I played a geddy, but that was a while back.

I know it's possible to set it, but how's the action on that bass?

rh15951
11-01-2007, 04:32 PM
Variable. Thinner neck will mean it moves about more due to temp/humidity change... My jazz is a pain for that...

Depends on the setup.

As stated before, the only geddy I have access too dosent even have a Geddy Neck on it anymore..,

it really depends on what you like best, at least as far as the feel goes.

I've got a Geddy that I've had for 3 years and i wouldn't trade it for anything, i absolutely love the feel, but I toy with the idea of changing the pickups alot but i'm still not sure.

the feel of the Geddy neck is great, IMO, but its not for everyone.

i love my geddy lee. i love the feel of the neck, and i really dig the tone. that said, i haven't really played too many americans, i just remember not feeling as impressed as i should have, and the geddy is a really sexy bass

I don't ever talk to soup anymore, he's gotten a big arrogant.

He got an upright bass and now he's planning on going to Berklee to major in upright bass. He fancies himself better than everyone else because hes "staying true" to his musical beliefs.

Im playing music, having fun, and actually making money. But I guess Im just a sellout...

If I was you I would go for a normal MIJ...same quality as a MIA but cheaper. The neck on the Geddy is really thin, too thin for my tastes, especially compared to my loverly stingray.
