Does anyone know what kind of basses Matt Freeman from Rancid plays? I think it's Fender, but I am not sure. If it is Fender, what kind is it?
thanks

I've seen him play p's and j's but not sure whether they're Americans or made in japan. I've also seen a bass with a humbucker in it. Kind of like a musicman but I couldn't tell for sure because it was all stickered up. It's in the "Fall Back Down" video.

Yep, thats a jazz. I was only saying I had only ever seen him play a precision before.
and  at Lars comment about him being the greatest bassist in the world. That solo sucked.

Both Frenzal Rhomb and A Wilhelm Scream smash him. I would even say Fat Mike is better due to less wankage and more melody.

plus, it would suck if your singer announced that you were "a pretty mediocre player".

I'd probably hit him over the head with the bass if he said that... that was a pretty funny comment :thumb:

Would it be better if he said Matt is the worst player in the world? lol.
He is definitely not the best, but he might be one of the best ones in the punk rock scene.

I remember last time this argument came up someone mentioned Matt Freeman doing some jazz work, Im not sure how valid it is though.

You should be shot for saying that... Freeman's good at what he does, he plays perfectly for Rancid. His basslines are very creative for punk rock. And Lars always says in every maxwell murder live video Matt's the greatest bass player in the world. Yeah the solo in maxwell murder is overrated but it isn't the easiest thing to play in the world.

True. But the bassist of A Wilhelm Scream is fecking great, so I have to agree with fathergoat on that note, at least.
Also, where the hell is your avatar from? I feel like I've seen it somewhere before.

Well he can't even play it, so there goes that argument. If you watch any video of Maxwell he mostly slows it down and takes breaks, if at all playing the same notes/progression.
Axiom has a better solo, but again it's only slightly better. Journey to the End of East Bay had somewhat of a nice intro... except for the fact it sounded like he took 14 great ideas and played them as one big incoherent mess.
Only song I like with his playing would be Bombshell by Op Ivy. Even then I am stuck on him being a pretty average bassist. Recommend me more songs plz.

If you made a really fast bass solo with progressions up and down the fretboard I would like to see you play it perfectly every single night. I doubt you would, I really do.

I would expect him to be able to.

freeman is my favorate bassist. maxwell murder is his most well known work, but the solo in bloodclot is very good as well, and there is great playing on lock, step, gone. i would love to see his playing and style, but with joe princepe's bass sound.
