ILately I've been looking to save upo some money for a sythesiser. I went to GC yesterday and played with some and my favorites were the microkorg and the Roland sh-201

What do you guys think? I liked how easy it was to to adjust the sound on the sh-201. Do you guys think it is small enough to be giggable or should I go with the microkorg if I want to go to venues.

lol dude, I gig with a stage piano that weighs about as much as I do and barely fits in my car, so yes, either of them is giggable.

the tiny keys on the korg are weird, but nice if you want to use it as a sort of one-handed vocoder choir harmony vibe type thing.

anything is giggable mate, as long as you know what you are doing, I use a cheap E-49 (£50) rigged up to my Laptop. I've seen bands using a 15 year old yamaha keyboard and pulling it off extremely well.

Yeah, I wanna buy a cheap keyboard. Any suggestions?

Ebay maybe? Under 200 bucks?

What do you want to do with it?

The answer to this question depends entirely on what you want to do with it.

Just have cool sounds, maybe one day join a metal ensemble..that's probably pretty far away though.

I'm in college, I just wanna have something cool and not spend a lot.

I was thinking something like the Yamaha PSR-E403 or YPT series, I just don't know if they're pieces of crap or not. I like the idea of recording and such, computer and what not. I just don't want a piece of crap I'll end up regretting.

Digital effects are always a plus.

what i'm getting at is "keyboard" is a very vague term. it could mean anything from a church organ to an analogue synth to a toy piano. what kinds of sounds do you want?

Well something along the lines of a cheap arranger or synth with a decent piano sound and just random cool rock/metal sounds I can play around with.

ah.

arrangers don't come cheap. the cheapest you can go is a korg something-or-other. can't remember right now. like a watered-down tr61. jurassic park is starting now so i'll check later.

What about the cheap yamaha's like DGX line or YTP line? I want something like this, I'm just not sure if these are pos's.

The PSR-E403 also.
