View Full Version : Stopping in...

Hey, all. Just figured I would drop in to see what everyone has been up to since I've gone on hiatus. Some of you will remember me, probably most of you won't. Anyway, I just wanted to check to see if any of the guys that used to post here back when I was on a lot are still around.
As for me, lately, I've been digging Muse a lot, and have been working to improve my slapping, soloing, and my ability to sing while playing bass. I don't have a band going right now, but I do go to a local jam night every Tuesday, and I'm hoping something might arise from that.
So, to the oldsters who remember me, drop in and update me on what you've been up to. Any new bands? New projects? Musical success stories? Any nice new basses?
To the newer people I don't know: Hi, there.

Where the hell have you been?
I've been in a band for a little under two years, but I may leave the band, as I'm seeing a few differences, and the guitarist, who is the reason I joined the band, is going to uni to the states next year anyway.
Besides that, nothing much. Not sure if I should study Psychology or Sociology.

Well, my wife studies Psychology and a friend of mine studies Sociology. I would say if you want better chances getting a job to go with Psyche, but I could be wrong. In any event, you'll need to get your masters.
Oh, yeah, I forgot to mention that I got married this summer. :chug:

Yeah, I could get a much better job with Psyche (and if I get the PhD/PsyD, I could be a psychologist), but I'm not sure which I like better.
And congratulations :chug:.

Well, I would say when you get to uni, if you have the money, take a couple classes in each and try to figure out which you like more. I graduated high school in 2002 and won't finish till fall 2008. I had to take a year off to save up money just to keep going, have had to constantly work in order to pay for school, and on top of that, they changed the system all around while I was here which added a semester onto my graduation time, so I'm currently on the 5 1/2 year plan. But I'll get my teaching degree, come hell or high water (and it'll be about time.)

It happens overnight. I remember when I realized that academia was just a big back-slapping fest. I lost all faith. Oh well. :p
Maybe it isn't the same out there. Who knows?

I remember YOU! What's been up, man? Awesome that you're touring. I've always wanted to, but I doubt I ever will get to now that I'm tied down with the ol' ball and chain (but I'm happy. :smoke:)

It's actually been going really well. College and work and whatnot are keeping really busy, but the band is keeping me happy. Playing shows nearly every weekend ... shooting a music video in a couple weeks. got a director and actors and all that jazz, so it should turn out pretty well hopefully. We're about to head back to the studio to get a new EP out sometime in the beginning of next year.
Too bad that you've got yourself tied down, but if that's what you want ... cool stuff :thumb:

Unis here aren't too expensive, and if I get accepted to the one I want, it's around $1,500 a year, and if I get a scholarship for bass I pay nothing.
Or I can go to UNAM for free. :-/

Hey.. I think I remember you. At least, your avatar. I haven't been on in a while either as I haven't had the internet or a computer for that matter. I'm living at my mom's now, for a little while, until I find my own place, and luckily she has a computer.

Not really... I've pretty much just been concentrating on the bass for the last couple years. In fact, I think it's been a good solid year since I even played my cello. I guess I'm overdue, but the problem is that I dont' really have any good sheet music for it right now.

That's cool. I'm glad all you guys who always used to talk about going to Berklee are actually doing it now. I'll be getting my teaching degree before too long now. Gonna be an English teacher. I'll probably teach private bass lessons during the summer (and cello if I can get my act together. :p )

Yeah, I'm working on my degree right now. I'm so sick of school. But, I guess you have to take it slow when you're working alongside it.
