practice as you do normally, noodle around, do scales and modes, just do it with tapping. try to use all of your fingers and just build strength, endurance, and generally how comfortable you are with tapping. As you do this steadily find harder songs to practice and then apply what you have learned to writing your own music :thumb:
jerry was a racecar driver was the first song i learned how to tap too :D

hmm I can tap with all fingers on my left hand fine right hand i can only use 2 at min so thats something im gonna work on once i get my six string.
I was surprised I got jerry was a racecar driver it took me all night but i remember seeing some1 saying to leave that for a while as its really hard :s.
well here's a good start:
- set your strings as low as they can go, if you havn't already. Don't work harder than you have to
- turn up (same reason)
- start simple, worry about technique before complex rhythms
- start using all of your fingers now, it will pay off
Here are some of the first tapping songs I learned:
Linus and Lucy
Country Music (A Night in Hell) - intro
Surely the Best
all Stu Hamm
DMV
Here Come the Bastards
both by Primus
here are some more easy ones:
George Smed - Chocolate Milk
Victor Wooten - Ari's Eyes
hope this helps

I'd call it awkward, not really hard
Primus has much harder songs

thanks m strings are always as low as i can get them anyway. ive taken them songs down and im gonna have a look at them over next few days (except DMV and hre come the bastards as I have heard them both and love them and primus). would any of them songs help with using all the fingers on my right hand though?

DMV is a good one for the right hand, for the verses try playing everything except the low D with your right hand
also the intro to Here Come the Bastards is all right hand

yeah DMV is a great beginner's song for the right hand. Some other songs to look up are video game jingles since they are usually arranged in a way that is easy to tap. Mario is a great one to learn, it's relativly simple in most parts but also has pretty challenging part [for me anyways]. The legend of zelda also has a plethera of awesome songs that can be arranged for two handed tapping.

You know whats an awesome VG song to tap? 'Hyrule Castle Courtyard' from the Ocarina of time. its a good beginner song, because its mostly only one hand at a time
^^ that would be a good one
I do Song of Storms but you need either a 6 string or tenor 5 to play it..

Tapping is pretty diverse. I've seen so many different styles of applying it- none of the bassists who use it often out here have the same approach. I say fool around with different styles of it and find out what sounds you dig. I started out using tapping mainly to do crazier fills, then started writing songs where the main melody is tapping.
Here is some sick tapping, where he's holding chords on the bottom:

Here is less sick tapping, doing more of a melodic line:

I can tap.
Have you ever made a post in this forum that wasn't totally pointless
