We're about halfway through mixing our CD. Those are two of the finished songs.

Let me know what you think of the bassing--playing and tone.

The instrumentals are really really good. I liked it a lot, but when the vocals come in it throws me off a bit. I can't put my hand on it but it doesn't sit well with me. But I do think the instrumentals are tight. Well done.

I can't get there from work, but I will check it out later.

This post is to save me a spot, for when I do listen because I am currently at school, which means that I am unable to listen to sounds that are emitted from the computer because I have no speakers in which to produce said sounds.

Dragonforce ****ing Owns
The drums right at the beginning are a bit annoying, it sounds like the theme tune to "Fresh Prince of Bel Air" is about to start. I like the song apart from that, everything sounds cool and I like the progression and synths.

The only other thing is that it doesn't sound like the bass and guitar lock in very well, it sounds like you or the guitarist is lagging at 90ms latency (if it were counter strike) or something. Might just be the mix though, something about the guitar and bass doesn't sound right, either slightly off time or mixing problems or something.

Bass tone sounded cool, sounds similar to the tone I use on most things.

Slow Song
Again in this song, the bass doesn't seem to lock in very well, although in this one, it sounds like you're kinda playing in a not very confident way, the lack of consistency in the note volume, im really not sure why Im hearing this in both songs.

Apart from that (which is probably debateable), this song owns a lot, i really like this one, I just think it needs to be recorded or something again because I think the bass doesn't sound very confident.

The breakdown after the double bass bit again sounds a little confidence lacking (and would therefore own more if it was confident)

That's how it sounds to me anyways, summary: Music sounds really good, guitar or bass or something is lacking confidence

That's a good description of how we feel it sounds too. We don't have the best space in the world for recording (our library has "studios", but they're nothing amazing) so most of this stuff, including the drums, was done with a mix of SM57s and Audio-Technica Condenser Mics. We weren't able to record at the volumes we wanted,so we're doing our best to put all that in post. While it sounds pretty good at 320kbps, the 128 quality stuff on those sites really brings out the worst in the mixes.

We're proud of what we've put out. We've got more coming, and will have the whole album done by Dec. 1. We're still debating on whether or not we need to master it.

Thanks for the comments so far, it's nice to get feedback.

I think the synths are too high in the mix on the first one. The snare sounds bad (maybe some eqing would help). Your bass tone needs to cut a little more, but from what I could hear it sounded groovy and the interplay between the guitar and bass was good. However, the timing on some of the guitar riffs is a little off and the guitar sounds like it's getting trampled on by the vocals and synths, it's just kind of there. It needs more character or warmth or something, idk the guitar's not quite happening yet.

Your vocal melodies were happening, but your singer was not singing in tune, and he had a tendency to slid up or down in pitch to hit notes that he wasn't hitting straight up. That makes the vocals sound weak imo. Did you guys use a preamp and/or a compressor?

It sounded like a mono track to me and it is key to do a good mix in stereo, it gives the song more life and dimension.

Yes, you need to master it.

I really liked the second song it's really hypnotic, and I enjoyed the vocals a little more than on the first tune. Again, bass is hard to make out. Noisy guitars during that heavy palm muted 16th part, sounds brutal but maybe that's what you're going for.

I'm not going to lie, I thought I was going to hate your band, but I would/will listen to this daily after the CD is finished.
Unless the rest sucks.

Good job on this.

We compressed it in post, and we just used the firepod's internal preamp.

It's also definitely not a mono track, but I do hear what you mean. I'll take a look at fixing that up.

And yeah, the 2nd song we were going for brutal at the end.

His voice just isn't good enough sounding to be that high in the mix, even if it is his fav. song. It would sound a lot better and balanced if you took him down a little.

I thought it was mono because I was kinda stoney earlier and was sitting too close to one speaker and the other one was bumped off to the side :thumb:.
