big pics beware, i was too lazy to resize.

anyway, i forgot to take a before picture, so here's a picture i took of it last year back in my dorm

http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h103/thdilmc/DSCF0990.jpg

so we busted out the trusty belt sander, and sanded off the finish.
http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h103/thdilmc/arics%20strat/DSCF1425.jpg

came off alot easier than i thought was going to, tbh.

http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h103/thdilmc/arics%20strat/DSCF1429.jpg

edges are a bit rough but we'll fix that later.

first thing to do, sand down a better arm contour, like on the EBMM petrucci sigs, those things are

freggin comfortable

http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h103/thdilmc/arics%20strat/DSCF1439.jpg

also sanded down the horns so they're sleeker, and look more 'ibanez S' like

http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h103/thdilmc/arics%20strat/DSCF1440.jpg

the back!

http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h103/thdilmc/arics%20strat/DSCF1445.jpg

and yeah, we sanded through the body into the control cavity in two places, hahah.

arm controur completed, so we started beveling the edges a bit

on to the hand sanding, as it was about 10pm and everyone in my neighborhood was going to bed

got some epoxy and filled that knot hole, as a couple pieces of filler came loose while sanding

we thought about paiting it, but we were only at my house for two days, and we didn't want to leave it

behind to dry (yeah impatient) so we decided to stain it.

going to be set up with a master tone, and a master volume, and we'll leave the top knob empty, as that

knob is far too close to the strings.

pickup switch will operate as a normal strat 5 way pickup switch.

the for the single coils in the neck and middle, those are the stock pickups, but we just took the pickup

covers off. i was originally just going to spray them black, but the pickup rings were too big to fit in

the new pickguard, so we just left them off.

all in all, cost about 30 bucks (new knobs and pickguard we picked up at GC while we tried out some stuff)

and a days worth of work.

i think it came out pretty sweet tbh, that arm contour rocks.

My pc is currently ****ing itself so it was like I had 56k again. Worth it though. I'm contemplating using some Ronseal wood finish on a random guitar now.

we were gonna paint this guitar flat black, but we didn't want to wait for it to dry. maybe we'll refinish it one day.

also, stfu we did cut off the string ends.

also, its wicked fun, if you have the tools and a spare guitar to chop up, definitely do it.

i love behinger strat copies they're made out of like balsa wood.

and **** ya, painting and clearcoating forever compared to just staining.

I'm definetely doing this too. I love the result. How long did the sanding take?

mnemonic
11-07-2007, 03:00 PM
like 10 minuites to strip the front and back (belt sander ftw) then maybe another hour to strip the edges and then maybe a half hour to hand sand the inner horns.

then we shaped it and smoothed out all the marks and ****ups from the belt sander.

overall it took from like 8pm to 11pm to strip it and get it all shaped, then we stained it the next morning i think. or maybe we put a coat on that night, i forget

It looks great. I'm going to get a Fender Squire and try it up. Worse thing that happens is I waste $75 on a used guitar. If it goes good, I'm going to try and make a few more.

Did you have any tutorials or lessons while making this?

If so can I have a link.

Haha sounds great. So when you sanded it did you just add a bit of contour to it? Or did you do anything else?

I'm seriously going to do this, and I'm going to get some new pick ups too. If I really like it I might buy an ESP or Jackson neck...

my friend is gonna be getting a carvin bolt on neck, and putting it on there. right now its his favorite feeling guitar, except for the neck. haha.

and yeah, we stripped the finish, and rounded out the edges a bit, and made the horns a bunch thinner, you can see in the pictures. also made a really deep arm contour on it so its super comfortable to play.

i think we started getting pretty good with taht belt sander near the end of it, because it wasnt too hard to smooth out the bumps after we'd learned how it worked

It would be sick to get a cheap esp and do this and throw in some sick pick ups, or a cheap jackson. Dosen't really matter what body it is, except if you want tremolo.

I have the same guitar, and me and my friend went at it too. We're at about 80% done of sanding it after getting all the stupid stuff off on the outside. Now we've just gotta' sand a bit more, we may re-shape some stuff and then I'm going to Stain it, see what it looks like, but then likely Paint it white, and put Pink EVH all over it. I'll make sure to post pictures and stuff when we're done.
