I'd like to find some bands that sound similar. Catch-22 and Less Than Jake are cool but Op Ivy can't be beat.

I don't know where you're from, but I believe a lot of people here are from Ontario. Anyway, I good local band that I think sounds a lot like Operation Ivy (they also do great covers of them) is Keepin' 6. You should check them out even if you're not from around here.

OpIvy are hard to sound like because it's hard to suck and be awesome at the same time.

Kind of, in a not really at all way, right?

Nah, I reckon Leftover Crack and Chocking Victim are pretty close (from a rough edged kind of Punk thing). I know not all their songs are that ska, but they defiantly have a similar(ish) sound.

Bands like Catch 22 arent similar because its all too produced.

Lexluthor
10-18-2007, 03:16 PM
I thought he was talking about LeftOver Crack being the same as Op Ivy ?

Haha, thats what im saying too... I know its a much bigger sound, but when compared to other suggestions in this thread, I can see where hes coming from saying Choking Victim (and then I added Leftover Crack) are kinda similar to Op Ivy.

As a totally random example of what im talking about. Listen to the ska bit in "Gay Rude Boys Unite", then listen to some ska(ry) Op Ivy song (like the cover, "One Of These Days").

They sound the same, but they aren't close. Choking Victim had a few close songs but Leftover Crack never came near the mark.

Op Ivy had terrible production, a drummer who couldn't keep time, a mediocre guitarist who is still probably the worst singer this side of the Casualties and a singer who wasn't much better.

Yet they created Energy, an album almost nobody can find a bad song on. An album that was instrumental in keeping Greenday's label afloat for far longer than it should have been able to.

Haha, no way do they sound alike, though they use many of the same sounds. I think the closest you'll get to Operation Ivy, the sound, is Assorted Jelly Beans.

You should check out the rudiments threadstarter t. brown, because they are a very good ska-punk band like operation ivy is. And all the other bands people have said. Except leftover crack,

They don't sound exactly the same, but they do have similar elements as Op Ivy. Short, musically simple songs about the world around them. They have more in common with Op Ivy than AJB in that sense.

I was just thinking about the rudiments for this thread over the weekend.

You mean if Op Ivy had a horn section at all? Btw the Rudiments sound like a cool band but where could I download their stuff?

Henrik
10-29-2007, 10:47 AM
Some of The Rudiments rule - HARD! But some of it really sucks too.

In general their ska stuff is the good part.

SkaRobotArmy
10-29-2007, 12:30 PM
op ivy doesn't a horn 'section' but they do have horns in a few songs, mostly sax i think. so that is probably what he is referring to.

Henrik
10-29-2007, 05:36 PM
You are probably right, but right now, even though I'm really tired I can only think of one song with horns in it: Bad Town.

What else?

TBrown87
10-31-2007, 11:28 AM
I think thats it. Bad Town is a sweet song though. So where could I get some of the Rudiments material?

Henrik
10-31-2007, 01:33 PM
I once got someone to upload both (are there anymore than that?) their albums for me on here. Sorry I don't have it anymore.
If you're looking into buying their stuff I would highly recommend their collection from 1996-1998 I think it's called. I might very well be wrong.
interpunk only got their punk album Bitch Bitch Bitch http://www.interpunk.com/item.cfm?Item=32062&
But honestly it's not very good.

Try and get the collection one, it's great. Especially the song "Wailing Paddle" which you've might have heard as a cover by Big D And The Kids Table.

Also, may I mention Corporation?
