Keyboard Sustain Pedal as Hi-Hat Pedal?

I am building my own electronic drumset in a couple of weeks, and trying to save as much as possible. I was wondering if I can use a keyboard sustain pedal as my hi-hat controller. I asked this in a different site, and noone checked it out.

yep, that'll work. you only get open/closed though, no intermittent.
