I am thinking about making an electric guitar out of readily available materials, except the pu's, pots, etc.

I am the bandleader of Marlinspike, a classic rock cover band with a nautical theme. If you've seen our shows, you know I'm talking about, if not, too bad, too much to explain.

Anyway, I want a custom electric guitar with a nautical theme to it. I was thinking about making the body out of an oar, an anchor, or a skeleton of a fish.

For the Oar, the paddle would be the body, the staff would be the fretboard, and the handle would be the headstock.

an anchor, the shape of an anchor, excatly what it sounds like.
self-explainatory.

and the fish, the tail would be the headstock and fretboard, the head would be the body. simple enough.

Anyway, sorry I can't post blueprints or anything, my scanner's down, guy supposed to come and fix it...sometime. So just try to visualize it.

Anyway, post with your opinions, suggestions, etc.

Thanks. :p

There is a shark shaped guitar that i keep seeing on eBay. If the price is right you could just buy that and upgrade stuff like tuners, pickups, bridge etc. if it's not so great stuff.

You are making the body out of an anchor? Wtf? Good luck. For shapes it shouldn't be too hard, just follow any instructions on making the bass, but if you are using those things well holy hell you are doomed.

God I loved that game.

I think your best bet would be a fish or a shark, the oar and anchor would be lame.

I saw this on a website. It's a Jay Turser. I've bought one of their strat knock-offs. Ther'yre one of them where you buy it cheap and replace stock pu's with high-end electronics (including pots, knobs, pu's, etc.).

Anyway, it says it's a mohogany neck. It doesn't mention what wood the body is. I assume it would be the same as the neck. It's around $400, so probably mahogony. Anyway, there's only one place in my city that sells JT's (Jay Turser's). They will only order me one if I buy it. Lame, but I would need to see and feel how it is when played.

So what should I do?

Also, Art people, you know who Edvard Munch was, right?

If he was a guitarist, what guitar wold he play?

I say an goth razorback. With "The Dance of Life" painted on the pickguard. Inspiration!

well yeah, there only worth like $200. Even their high-end ones. (If they even have any).

Like I said, the body's probably alright, just upgrade all the electronics.

I would order one like this from Warmoth, but their site says they ain't takin' orders. Lame!
