Meh...it's a different sound. Higher pitched drums tend to project better, so mayhaps they were tuning for projection to emphasize the polyrhythm.

Woah, he sounds good here!!!!
First time for everything!!!
Bravo Virgil if I see a couple of more videos where he actually groove like he did in this one and with a band I'll start to respect him!

Edit to TS, nice video, I enjoyed the first guys video better. It can be simplified alot though, my teacher taught me that same thing a while ago, it has something to do with dotted quaters but I'm not in the mood to find it now, maybe if someone reminds me tommorow or if I remember I'll go find it

i refuse to even hire mine in the first place. they haven't proven themselves yet.

those doubles he was doing were insane. my doubles are steady, but slow as hell in comparison.

That's sorta what Planet X is for.

He's got some nice stuff on the new Devil's Slingshot album (Virgil, Tony Macalpine + Billy Sheehan)
http://myspace.com/devilsslingshot
Saw them last thursday :D (Virgil dropped a stick, during his solo, no less. Shows that even he's human)

Those guys in the first video were pretty awesome, considering they've never had any teaching.
