Does anyone have any experience with these? Are they truely 'the ultimate gaming machine'

Or is it just a load of crap?

They're good gaming PCs, but they're pretty expensive.

You'd save a lot of money just building your own with same or better specs.

just build something 10X's better on new egg for half the price.

Yeah, newegg is the bomb for PC components and other media related items.

Edit: And yes, building is very enjoyable. You appreciate the PC more.

Only get Alienware if you're absolutely in love with their Cases (which you can get externally anyway), or like their cooling system.

Ah but I don't think you do.

Build your own. That's what I'm going to do hopefully next year.

Mr. Ron

I can promise you that you can build something wayyy better than anything alienware offers under $1500.

Overclockers in Britain is just as good as Newegg on pricing and whatnot.

But yeah, DEFINATELY don't waste money on a pre-built CompUSA, Alienware, or any other machine that claims to be "the ultimate gaming machine".

One machine I saw in CompUSA for 2000$ had:
AMD 4200+ Processor, single core
1 GB 184 pin regular DDR **** PC3200 RAM
160gb 8mb cache HD
Nvidia 7000 series video card.
**** *** mobo.

My custom build was only 800 and is double to 4x as good in nearly every aspect.

Well, you are basically paying more for the name if anything.

WTF 2000 is my budget for the parts for my system I'm going to build, for 200 more I have:

4 gigs PC2 6400 (ddr2 800) RAM
An 8800 GTX
250 gig 16mb cache SATA 3.0 GB/s HD
Core 2 Duo E4300 (should be able to overclock to about 2.5 GHz at least)
20" widscreen Samsung LCD

That's a disgusting ripoff.

IF YOU WERE going to go with a prebuilt, yes go with Falcon Northwest or VoodooPC.

Cool, they work, but they're expensive as hell.

**** newegg, I just go to a computer components store 20 minutes away for my parts that's about the same price anyways.

Core 2 Duo E4300, you should be able to overclock it to about 3.0 GHz even on the stock cooler.

o cool. so i need not wait for the next big thing? quad core, etc...will games really need all that, or is their a ceiling that is just overkill?

DJ Ducksauce

I highly doubt quad-core will be utilized fully in games for years.

Unless you like to leave 20 apps on simutaneously, there's really no need.

You really can wait forever for the next new thing, if you wait for a couple of months Intel will release their new 45nm CPUs and a whole bunch of new stuff, etc. Some of the newer games coming out now are most definitely intense with their requirements, but you gotta just look at what you're willing to spend. I bought the second cheapest new DuoCore (E6400) when it came out and overclocked it for a near 50% increase in speed. Saved me a whole bunch of cash.

Might as well build your own for a fraction of the price. Alienware is so damn expensive.

Games are just barely starting to take advantage of dual core, and it's a technology that has been out for a couple years.

this thread reminds me about the time i bought some RAM from tiger direct but i ended up sending it back because it didn't work with my laptop. but instead of giving me my money back they gave me store credit. little did i know that only lasted for 30 days. since i never used the credit within those 30 days i lost $80.
