I want to modify my Squier P-Bass.
This was my first bass, I learnt to play almost everything I know on this bass and I played my first gig with it… It means a lot to me!
I want to do it up somewhat, nothing massive, but I want to get the best out of it and hopefully get some use out of it again.
This would be the first time I’ve modded anything and I could do with a bit of help!
Besides aesthetics, I want some decent pickups to replace the originals and I’ve literally no idea what to get.

I found this site, which seems to have a pretty good range:
http://www.axiomatic-music.co.uk/acatalog/Precision_Bass_Style.html

Can anyone recommend some, that will obviously fit and are compatible etc?
I’m looking for ones that will give it a really, really nice tone, as in not just "ok"

Thanks in advance for any advice :thumb:

A series/parallel switch is pretty easy to do...

As we're in the UK, axiomatic-music is a pretty good place for pickups, but don't forget to check out Thomann.de or GAK, they tend to have some nice, decent stuff too.

You could always add a J-pickup to the bridge?

I can recommend the Dimarzio Model P for a P-bass, and the split-P's sounds awesome, the bass at college has them loaded (after much nagging :p)

There's a whole bunch of electronic options you can add to taste too, if you wish, and as rh15951 said; series/parallel switches are pretty easy

I found that pickups for my Strat were much much cheaper buying them from USA, with me being from UK. They woulda been £180 for 3 in UK, but i got them for £60 delivered I think.

Anywhoo, you could de-fret it, put a new finish on it, new pickguard, change knobs, new tuners/bridge to make it better instead of just aesthetics. The world's your oyster.

That IS true, you can get stuff much cheaper in the US, but occasionally and unfortunately you CAN get screwed on customs taxes, and can eventually end up the same price or more as in the UK :(
I know from experience :upset:

And definitely agreed in this :D

If it's a big parcel you'll get charged customs 'cause they have to search it as it may be suspicious, i'm pretty sure this is what i was told. I didn't pay any for the pickups, but had to pay £30 customs for a body i got sent over.
