I used the search function and couldn't find a thread on this, I'm a little surprised.
For those of you that have been living under a rock for the past couple months, Orange Box is a bundle package by Valve containing:
-Half Life 2
-Half Life 2: Episode 1
-Half Life 2: Episode 2
-Portal
-Team Fortress 2
**Does not contain Counterstrike: Source**
It is slated for an October 10th release in the US and will retail for $49.99 on the PC and $59.99 on the Xbox 360. The European version is scheduled for an October 12th release date. A PS3 version will follow 2 to 3 weeks after the initial launch.
**I'm not certain on these dates yet**
Anyone who preorders the game from Valve gets a $5 discount ($44.95), a Half Life themed version of the PopCap game, Peggle Extreme (which is quite addicting), and free entry into the Team Fortress 2 beta, beginning Monday September 16th (no official start time yet).
Overall, I'm pretty excited about Episode 2 and TF2. Episode 2 takes place on the outskirts of the Citadel in open, expansive environments, and I've been looking for a good multiplayer shooter after outplaying the Battlefield series.

I hope to god Valve puts the Black box up on Steam because I really don't want to have to pay for HL2/EP1 since I already own them. That aside, every game in it is going to be amazing.

I'm pretty sure they scrapped the Black Box.

Retail wise, over Steam its still up in the air.

Damn I really have to upgrade my computer so I can play HL2 and the rest, I don't really want to play it on my 360.
Portal looks pretty sweet.
Gah!
I'm pretty sure you can buy EP2, Portal and TF2 separately on Steam. I'm still getting the Orange Box though since I've never played HL2. I can't wait. This collection is going to take me over. TF2 looks so fun to play.
I am totally ordering it tonight! I want team fortress 2 beta!

I'll be getting it for sure. I've already got HL2, but that's it. Plus it works out cheaper to buy the Orange Box than it does to buy the games individually, so it'll be worthwhile I think.

I remember seeing a Portal demo years ago, then seeing it at E3 this year got me pumped. It looks like a really clever use of the engine.
Apparently if you complete portal you get to use the portal gun in episode 2, now we just have to get the portal gun in team fortress 2 tee hee. Speaking of which I cannot wait to play the beta.

I will hit you up when I have finished downloading which seems to be taking a long time and when I played episode one after downloading it all I got were the wireframes of the npcs.

It doesn't. I bought it with Gmod for $25 off Steam.
Just bought Orange Box, I can't wait to start playing TF2.
It would destroy if it ****ing worked for me.
:-\
Come on, no one else is playing TF2?

I played a bit of TF2 at a friends house. ****ing amazing is all I have to say.
All I really want is CS:Source and TF2, but I don't want to scrap the option of Orange Box just yet because it might save a lot of money if I decide to play Portal.
I cannot wait for portal to come out I just hope it is not really short like episode one. I also hope the damn game works on my computer.

The Orange Box ad on US television has an incredibly annoying robotlady voice. ):
Thats the voice you hear all the way through portal.

How short are Episode 1 and 2?
Anglachel
10-06-2007, 06:26 PM
Oh man, I got it and I keep ketting the freaking "Memory could not be read" error on HL2 and the Steampowered forums/support faq didn't help.
Anyways, TF2 is amazing

How short are Episode 1 and 2?
Episode 1 is 4-6 depending on your play type. Episode to is supposed to be 6-8 hours.

Definately getting this, though I'll probably wait a bit to get it. Too many other games to get the next few months.
Who cares about episode 2 portal is king of puzzle games, I cannot wait, I love that video from the developers of prey where they have this looking glass that rotates on 3 axis and you walk through it to the place in the picture but you cannot go back.

Oh snap I just borrowed my sisters credit card and bought it, $50 saving yeahhhhh
PEGGLE!!!
If it first you don't succeed, you fail.
Holy **** HL2, E1, E2, TF2 and Portal is going to be like 15GB+ to download...and I only have a 21GB limit each month...guess I'll have to get them over the next 2 months.
hmm hopefully it'll be less than 10gb in total after things reuse each others engines and stuff.

Just beat Portal last night, a lot of fun but I wish it was longer. Played TF2 for a little bit today and its awesome. Will start Epi 2 on Wednesday since I have an exam tomorrow. I'll sell somebody HL2 and Epi 1.
Buttloaves
10-15-2007, 06:46 PM
I beat Portal, as well as the full version of Peggle finally. On the very last level of Peggle, I beat it in 2 shots. My first one took out every orange peg but 1. It got in the perfect place, where it just sat there chillin, and nearly every peg in the level passed under it. I ended up getting 749,600 points on one ball  But anyways, if anyone wants to rock some TF2, my Steam name is Manntisftw, I play pretty frequently.

Peggle is awesome, I'm really thinking about getting the full version.
Buttloaves

Peggle is a Popcap game, where each level consists of a bunch of blue and orange pegs. You start with 10 or so balls that bounce off any pegs in the level, and the object is to eliminate all the orange pegs before you run out of balls. Of course, there's a moving bucket at the bottom that gives you a free ball if your current ball lands in it, and other pegs that give points or activate special abilities. It's really fun and addicting.

I have 3 more advanced challenges on Portal, then I'm done. I'm not trying the time attacks. I've seen some videos just obliterate the times set, I don't think I'd stand a chance.
Buttloaves
10-15-2007, 11:36 PM
I beat all the advanced challenges. I will tell you now, level 18 is a complete and utter bitch.

Oh man forgot about advanced maps. I'll probably get to them this weekend or after I beat Episode 2, whichever comes first.

So I beat HF ep 2 and Portal and ......wow... great games. I played portal again today with the comentary and don't worry they gave plenty of hints to future Portal games.

EDIT: Lol I think that "PPPS: I feel FANTASTIC and I'm still alive" is enough for a future Portal game

Portal was a very refreshing game to play, definitely one of my favourites, and Episode 2 was fantastic.
Not to mention TF2.
If there is one game you should buy this year it is the Orange Box.

Finished Portal yesterday, what a fun little game it is. I think I'll give the advanced maps a go in an hour or so.
Still haven't finished downloading TF2 so I'll have to wait a while before giving it a spin with exams coming up.

Finished Epi2 and it was awesome. Final strider battle was a pain. Had too much emphasis on using the grave gun as a weapon, needed a little more shooting things.
Finally got the hang of most of the TF2 classes. Probably will spend the rest of the night playing it.

Bought The Orange Box on release (19th over here) and have loved every minute.
Half Life 2's great; a bit frustrating but great, Portal's so good it gives me headaches (can't get through Room 19 though), and Team Fortress 2 is really good fun when I'm not getting pwn3d.
Peggle Extreme's a fairly good distraction too. Anyway, does anyone apart from me get the "WARNING: OS Paged Pool Memory Low" message in TF2?
Edit: Also, does anyone get DirectX errors in Half Life 2 because the game locks up and shuts down from time to time for me.

one of the few gripes i have with TF2 is the lack of grenades, other than it's a pretty refreshing game
I cannot wait for the sdk release, that is when using the portal code will become ultimately amazing. Think of the possibilities.

I finally finished Ep2. Such a huge improvement over Ep1 which wasn't up to par :-/
Mm... I actually think I prefer Ep1 over Ep2... but maybe that's just because I really like the whole citadel thing.
Episode one would have been amazing if it was longer and ahd more of a plot.
