Hey all. I have some new music uploaded on my myspace.
www.myspace.com/ryanbrewermusic

Tell me what you think, i'd enjoy some feedback/criticism. Oh and by the way, on the tune entitled "RB Track" I overdubbed all instruments. :D

Thanks heaps!

RB Track: sweet Rhodes riffs, very trip-hop-ish. I'd have preferred more laid-back drums (rimclicks and ride instead of snare and hats) to give it a more loungey feel, but it's nice and upbeat and not too depressing as it stands. :)
Summertime: well fvcking done, very Motown. I love the horn arrangements - sounds like the kind of thing that is currently prevalent in the Cape Town jazz scene. The guitar is also sweet. Your drum soloing is tasteful and effective, which is not a thing many drummers can claim.
Odysee: sweet Rhodes again. I like your style, even if it sounds like it's not fully developed yet (which I doubt it is - you're only 15, after all).

How do you record your Rhodes?

also I love how you look like a total emo yet you listen to/play nothing of the sort. :P

Dude much respect for what you can do at your age. I'm 19 and I'm a damn sight behind you in terms of musical ability.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MBtVkuf3PYg - that's my band from last year. I think you'll like it. :) Recently the bassist and I came up with the idea of re-forming the band, adding keys and a female MC.

Thanks heaps for all the kind words, man! :thumb:

Oh, Odysee was recorded about 6 months after I started playing (2 years ago). So it's more of a representation of what my playing was like as opposed to now.

I recorded my rhodes by plugging straight into a small 4-track recorder, then adjusting the eq to a fairly mellow one. I turned the bass boost right up as usual haha.

I'll be uploading another few tracks soon, i think. I need to add drums to a couple different originals i'm writing/have written.

Well, I don't really like labels, but i'm over being offended at the 'emo' thing. But if i were to sum up my style, i'd say more mod, if anything...

I dig your tune too, it's nice and groovy, the chords are nice and open too :)
Cheers for all the props though, man. It's very much appreciated!

Yeah, i like my haircut, so it doesn't really matter.
Thanks though.

you've been teaching yourself piano for only two years and you already sound like this

that means:

you are very naturally talented. pursue music.

i have nothing to say about the music that hasn't already been said, but no one really said that specifically, so i thought i would point it out

Might as well regurgitate what's been said. It's nice stuff, well composed, not too "heavy". You're quite accurate with what you're going for, and I'm sure there will be many more revisions to your style. What you've done sounds quite professional but not completely your own, so good luck with whats to come.
