I had this problem about a year ago. Wintermute solved it last time.
I seem to get into a band very much, learn pretty much all of their songs and then stop liking them so much.
First it was RHCP then tool then Dream Theater.
Could anyone recommend me a band that has very active bass lines?
Would you guys specify your favorite song from the artist you chose?
I'd appreciate it a lot.

Between The Buried And Me. Absolutely insane musicianship. For amazing basslines, listen to Selkies: The Endless Obsession, All Bodies, and the entire new album (Colors), Viridian in particular (it's pretty much a bass solo). Opeth is an amazing band as well, but their bassist isn't as active (still very good, though). If you want to check them out, I'd recommend Bleak, Ghost Of Perdition, Beneath The Mire, The Drapery Falls, and Closure.

Shinhwa - Once in a Lifetime
Minwoo - Bump / Girlfriend
If you need any other K-Pop, let me know.

He should check out every song where Sean Malone is playing bass because it's absolutely amazing. I was just giving my favorite song from the band.

I have (tried) to listen to a tonne of the projects he was in, but I cannot move passed the part where they are incredibly boring.

Hahaha, sorry.
I mean, the musicianship and everything in the songs are great, don't get me wrong, but to listen to music such as that doesn't tickle my fancy. :(

band which has become my favourite at the moment is Pain of Salvation. They're really cheesy in places but damn it, the fretless bass grooves are so brilliant when you hear them (and play them)

Oooh you're so right. The bassist can realllly play. If you ever watch the live videos, he slaps and taps and does all that jazz while still holding it down under Gildenlow.

seen that one before, it's really great
i usually hate it when people say things like this, but...if you can play most every song by RHCP, Dream Theater, and Tool...and you're bored, perhaps it's time to write your own music to really fill that void, ya know? i mean, by all means, do what you want. learning other band's songs is certainly fun and VERY helpful; but perhaps that feeling of boredom can be more effectively alleviated by writing your own music, as opposed to continually learn someone else's.

I agree with this, but everyone starts somewhere, sounds really lame saying this "but when the time comes, then you can start writing". I listened to and played a hell of a lot of music till I found the niche that I like writing in
yeah, certainly, everyone starts somewhere, but i'd say learning every RHCP, Dream Theater, and Tool song is a more then sufficient start. but yeah, i understand what you're saying.

yeah, it is sufficient, but personally, i'm glad none of my songs sound like Higher Ground or Dance of Eternity

he's saying you've got the basics (or advanced skills, whatever) required to start doing what a music instrument is designed for - making music.
Get out there, get inspiration and write something is what he's saying

But I already compose.....
In fact I score more than 90% right on all the ear tests I'm given.
That is excluding jazz chords and cadences (screw cadences)
Anyways, thanks to all for supporting.
I think I'm getting into that Guardian Knot band.

Most songs are usually made by a jam, by having a good ear you can find that specific interval you want making ones improvisations so much better.

well, you have a completely different approach to writing than I do, guess that's the fun :)

I can picture you with ink and staff paper and a cello in your right hand writing songs.

i'm still confused.
ok...you can compose...but do you?

Composing is easy.
Composing something that sounds good to our ear is hard.
And yes, I compose and it sounds great.
Where is Wintermute btw.
well, personally, i also find writing a song to be fairly easy. have you ever composed a piece of music for a symphony or orchestra? i'd say that's a great deal harder...

I'd think otherwise.
I mean the more instruments the longer it takes, yet the more diversity one gets.
I could totally see how composing parts for timpani would work out.
I'd think otherwise.
no offense or anything but that's fairly naive.

haha, buddy I don't know if there is much room left for improvement as far as band situation for any of those genres.

What I'm saying is unless you have real good dexterity at accompanying yourself on the guitar, I'd say it would be easier to write for a whole band than just one instrument.
It might take longer but more doors are open.
Unless you are friggin Wooten and grow out 4 arms (soul circus FTW)

Yeah, I thought they were incredibly boring when they played Awesomefest 2004. His name is Zach (Zack?), and I do not know if he is in the band anymore, seeing as I do not follow them. I was helping a friend run their merch table, and he came over and asked if I wanted to buy a bass.
I was not going to pass up picking up a bass for 50$.

bassists who play progressive rock
Apparently Geddy Lee from Rush is cool, and a huge inspiration to active bassists.
I've never listened to them before, but I'm getting a live album this weekend.
