I made this diagram a while ago of all the pedals that i want (in a rough flow) and was wondering what you guys think:

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y58/Atomicant/pedalboard.jpg

Although the Guv'nor has been replaced with a Drive Master and im debateing about keeping the DOD250 in there.

So, you guys can post real (or photoshopped) versions of effects you have/want, discuss effects and players that use them.

you guys have a lot of effects. i'm gonna get my sansamp bass driver tomorrow, pretty sure it will kick ***. but should i put it in front of the amp or in the effects loop?

right now my only pedal is a boss compressor that i use at home, i don't bother bringing it to band practices.

Akira

My only pedal is a Digitech chorus that I don't really use that much.
I need a distortion pedal for guitar so that I don't have to always play clean.

the only pedal i got is a zoom 506 efects pedal that i got for like $50 but imma look for a better pedal soon coz we getting a bonus this month in our pay so its either a pedal or a bigger turtle tank and stuff for home...

I'm going to use my tax return (that I hopefully get) for either a pedal or a 32-band rackmount EQ.

Akira
09-09-2007, 02:41 PM
32-band? Wtf?

Sablate McNuff
09-09-2007, 02:47 PM
Actually, I believe it's a Dual 16-band EQ, but still. I prefer the ultimate in tonal control.

If I have enough after that, a nice rackmount tuner would be sweetness.

I don't get the need for a rackmount tuner, what does it offer over a £10 plastic one? Any difference in accuracy will be negligible and a tuner is only really needed for convenience or tuning up in the middle of a ruckus anyway.

Rackmount tuners are nice because they add lots of pretty lights to your rig.

In the middle of everything else going on or while the singer is announcing the next song live on stage? I actually already addressed your reply in my original post, by the way.

Rackmounts seem to be for certain people only..
Some people like having stuff at their feet, some dont. And some people need that 1/1000th accuracy when tuning...
Regardless, tuning by ear on stage = you failing.

Anyways, since were on the topic of effect... how about pic's of your boards? im gonna custom build one for a friend soon... getting some ider's

I always want to buy new effects and stuff but whenever I do I always realise that its just pointless, I just plug strait into my amp 95% of the time and when I do use effects its never anything more than a little delay or something.

It's just nice because I hate having effects at my feet (I'm always stepping on them on accident), it doesn't run off of batteries, and it can remain always on. Plus, I could do some crazy, on-the-fly detuning stuff (Manring style), and it would be very convenient for me to do so.

You can get power adaptors for your effects. thus, battery issue eliminated :thumb:

Why have an amp at all? Why not just get an acoustic? Why dont you remove this horrible 'guitar' creature and just use your natural voice to make noises?

Get the picture?

BullDoG_37

acoustic basses are the way to go. everytime i grab mine out when people are round they have to take a second look at it before they realise its an acoustic bass

And everyone should use their voice, its the best passage from your mind. I always sing ideas to myself and try to figure them out.

But you can hide behind distortion if you like. It does hide sloppiness, after all :thumb:

I think you missed the point... pedals are just something to colour your tone, you dont have to like them or use them, but people dont buy distortion pedals to hide sloppiness, they buy them becasue they like distortion.

Many great bassist use distortion, among other pedals.. i wouldn't call Flea, Justin chancellor, Timmy C, Micheal Manring, Dirk Lance, or P-nutt sloppy :thumb: i'd call them all amazing

Better is rather subjective.

Effects are a tool, as much as anything else is.

Question to Big Muff users: do you find that the pedal pwns on its own, or does it kill off enough of the low frequencies to warrant blending it with a clean signal?

I don't exactly own a bass and I don't have the time or equipment to experiment, but I'm auditioning for a band soon and I'd like to use my Big Muff just for giggles.

the Rus. (black or green i believe) version has more low end than the american. some people like it.. i think it was pretty much made famous by mr. Cliff Burton a la Anesthesia

i like it, dont use it real often though.. unless im fiddling around on my own.

Just as an additional question, what would be the most efficient tool for blending the clean signal with a Muff'd one? The Boss LS-2 seems like a nice idea.
