I have a 4 string Fender Deluxe P bass which has a J pickup at the bridge, and a p bass pickup near the neck. I hadn't played this bass for a while, and not so long ago I adapted to a 3 finger plucking technique (still working on it) and I like to use the P bass pickup as a ramp. So, I am bassically always plucking right over the p bass pickup. Well, I just noticed that the bottom half of the p bass pickup is crooked. Does anyone know how to fix it? It's pretty annoying.

I'd like to post pics, but I don't know how. Where on the internet can I upload the pics so that I can specify the URL and attach them here?

yeah it'd be easier to "diagnose" with pictures.

crooked as in.. up and down..or.... like.... left to right?

i know that alot of Fender P's ive seen in stores have had the pickups heightened on the A and D strings and lowered on the other two.

Up and down is not a problem; it's normal. Mine's actually tilted to the left. So, if I am standing with the bass on my shoulders, and looking down, the part of a p pickup that is farther from me is tilted to the left. Pisses me off.

I'll try to upload a pic now....

I took the pics last night, so the lighting and the quality might suck, but you should be able to see what I am talking about even from these crappy pics.

The first one is with the bass flipped over. The other two are with a bass in it's normal position. Remember, it's the pickup that's under the G and D strings. The 3rd pic is pretty bad, but you should an idea with the first 2.

just unscrew the pickups and place something such as folded paper/cloth/whatever underneath it until you get it just right.

*shrug*

So, do some basses have that too, or is this super rare? It's pretty annoying.

Mine does that on one side. I never bothered with it.

Probably the foam under the pickup is deformed - just take the pickup out and replace the foam.

i see it quite frequently. it's not really a big deal unless you just have an aesthetic problem with it.

Where can I get that foam?

Or use a really thick piece of sponge

You can use anything you want for support material. I've used plastic tubing cut to length on the screws themselves. I've used various types of foam... Hell, on my current bass there's nothing at all!

Your pickups should follow the height of your strings
