Hello all, been a while since I've been here. At this point in my bass playing I'm at a bit of a stalemate. I'm quite proud of my skill and accomplishments, but I feel like I want to improve more on my skills in general. Anyone have any suggestions for me?

In case it matters, I'm in a heavy/extreme metal band, but I personally play anything from Dream Theater to Cannibal Corpse to some of Wooten & Berlin's stuff. I just don't know where to go from here.

Thanks in advance,

-Dave

record yourself, you'll notice things you don't notice when you're playing

plus a recording never lies

^ this.

It's a great way to actually listen to your playing. I use to notice that when I'd become bias towards my playing whilst actually playing, but once I sat down and listened to a recording, I could start getting more critical of myself.

I can stand listening to myself playing bass, now, but I can still can't handle listening to myself playing clarinet, tenor sax, or flute. I was always incredibly embarrassed for some reason.
