So I bought the Squier Vintage Modified Jazz Bass a couple days ago. I'm really surprised with the quality, as every Squier I've played before this has been crap.

This cost me $433 CAD with tax, and its seriously as good as any $700 or $800 bass I've ever played. Really bright sounding, but still has good low end, and tons of growl.

Also, hopefully you can see in the picture, the neck wood is slightly flamed, which is pretty cool.

Is it just me or has squier suddenly become a purveyor of pretty high quality gear all of a sudden? I.E. Rivalling proper Fender gear?

Looks good.

I've played a few squiers that have held up pretty well. Congrats.

Definitely not rivaling "proper" Fender gear, but the general consensus is that with this latest line of vintage basses, Squier has really stepped it up.

I too disagree with "proper" Fender gear, but the vintage line is definitely equivalent (if not slightly better than) most MIM Fenders I've improperly touched.

Its easily better than all the MIM Fenders I've played, but not as good as MIAs (obviously).

Theyre also cheaper than MIMs. :thumb:

Oh and I was originally gonna get a Geddy Lee jazz, but since I play my fretless most of the time (and therefore don't feel like I need a super-expensive fretted bass), I decided to go for this one, because its an absolutely amazing bass for the money.
