Nevermind.
I'd rather have 1 good bass than 2 shitty ones but as long as you're happy

Yeah, but that price, you can flip the 2 crappy basses for more than what you paid for them.

I'm cranky and don't feel like having my little parade rained on. Tell 'em what **** basses i got, please.
TS I'm not being an elitist snob for stating my opinion
I'm just saying that I go quality over quantity with my equipment
but if you don't I won't think less of you for it

TS, I'm kind of like you when it comes to basses. I'd like to get multiple average basses and mod them and adjust them to special preferences and give each of them special functions than get one good bass.
I'd rather have many basses that each do one thing well than one bass that does many things not-so-well.

Who the F is TS?
Okay, I know you're allowed to state your opinion. I'm cool with that. But take into consideration that not everyone who ACTUALLY PLAYS, and plays out, can afford an actual Warwick or a True Music Man. I have too many other obligations to blow that kind of money on something I do for FUN. I had intended to pick up an ATK, but all they had was one used one at the price of a new one. So I opted to go the route that I did.
So, for those that missed it, here's the list:
OLP MM3FN fiver, natural finish
RockBass Corvette Basic, classic white
Trace Elliot GP 7 SM 2x10 combo (used)
bags, straps for each
500 bucks.
Sorry for the tantrum. It happens.

Someone will always have something negative to say - it's the internet, don't be so thin-skinned.

Ah. Thread starter. Got it.
Jimbo, not being thin-skinned. Just in a foul mood. It's all good.
Besides, it gave a few something to do for a bit.

The Trace is good enough to offset the crappy basses. Just put emgs in them and better hardware, and you'll have a couple of pretty good instruments.

You might want to change the pick ups in the rockbass. Actually probably with the OLP too after that you got 2 high quality basses.

You know that you can haggle with Guitar Centre, yeah?
I bought a used Avatar 4x10" and 1x15" from them, and I had them drop 200$ off the sale.

I love my OLP MM2. Haven't play an MM-3.
Good price for the lot.

Are you saying I don't ACTUALLY PLAY and play out
because I do for the record
And I can't afford a real Warwick or Musicman either
If you think I'm an elitist gear snob bedroom player, I'm not. If I was, I'd be on Talkbass, not MX.
I would have just rather got one higher quality bass than the 2 you listed. Sorry if I came off as a dick or elitist, I really wasn't trying to be

For the record, not everyone on TB is an elitist gear snob bedroom player. In fact, I imagine there are more serious bassists on TB than MX.
...Some of those serious bassists just enjoy pulling a double-duty here on MX and on TB :D

The way you word that makes it sound like MX has serious bassists...

o I know not all of them are
but still, they have far more than we do
and I havn't even mentioned the elitist gear snob gig players. Pretty much the same thing as the elitist gear snob bedroom players except they gig.
But I guess some of them have a music room or studio. they don't all play in their bedrooms.

Part of the reason that TB has more snobs is because they have far more members than we do in the bass forum.

The general age group of TB is also a lot higher than MX which lends itself to a lot of people with more income over at TB. As such there's typically a lot more expensive gear at TB and therefore the perception of snobbery seems higher.

Exactly.
I post on a fairly regular basis over at TB--the place has always been very helpful, and is a great resource for information, reviews, opinions, buying, selling, etc.
There are some people who are definitely on their high horses (some on extremely high horses, lol), but the vast majority of people at TB are just interested in bass and enjoying it, not snubbing 'lower quality' gear.

Nah, it's cool. Not saying you don't play out, I said not every who does can afford (or need) a high dollar bass. I was actually trying to get across the point that I do play out. (but sadly, I do more playing in my bedroom......) And as I mentioned, I wasn't going to pay New price for a used ATK. Which was really at about my limit and my first choice. I guess really I was looking at overall bang for buck. IDK.
At any rate, let's bury this damned hatchet and move on, shall we?

Update:
Played a gig with the new gear last night. Knew pretty much what to expect out of the Trace combo, but gotta say I am very pleased with the performance of both the OLP and the RockBass. The MM3 got me a nice, fat tone and the added versatility (5 string v. usual 4) was definitely a plus. The neck in general was quite comfortable, I experienced no wounds at the hands of sharp fret edges (an issue with earlier models, I think), no buzz issues, just an overall good feel.
With the RockBass, it was more of the same, as the neck was very fast and "smooth". I do have to agree with it having a more "nasal" sound, but with a few twists and tweaks was able to get a good tone for our version of classic rock. Not to mention the fact that is is very comfortable to play overall. No weight issues or anything of the sort.
While I obviously did play the basses before purchasing them, it was nice to get them out and beat on 'em a bit in a live band situation. So, for round one I give all pieces of equipment a thumbs-up.
Did I mention my previous live rig was a Carlo Robelli 4 string through a used Crate BX100?
