So, i've been playing fretless for a while in my band and i'm kinda sick of having to lug my 5 string there for slapping and the low b (do not slap on flatwounds says i).
My predicted budget is around 1.5k AUD
suggest me a bass
(before you ask my band is dr milk --> www.myspace.com/drmilk , only Pole dancing pete is not on fretless)

lakland is lined sadly (they make such nice basses)
my current fretted bass is an A5, getting a B5 seams a bit odd to me

Sadly, the MTD Kingston Z5 is lined also.
Oh well, more good basses for those of us who don't care.

You could always get a custom Carvin for around 1500 AUD and they can do the unlined thing for you.

I always thought lined is better (well at least for me).

Lines always helped me in being very close to the desired note, although if you have a very good ear, unlined would not be a problem. Although, I don't see how lines can harm!??

I think it is an aesthetics thing more than anything else.

The problem with lines is that people tend to think that they can play on the line all of the time and it will be in tune, but that's not true
it depends on factors such as how your bass is intonated, your scale length, where on the neck you are playing, etc (possibly string gauge?)

i'm settled on unlined, i've been playing an unlined 4 string for more than two years and i'm quite comfortable with it.
i personally don't like the look of lines, i reckon it takes away from the whole smoothness of the bass

I can adjust to my fretless bass, easily, the only problem I've had with it is people going, "THATS A FRETLESS BASS, NO ITS NOT!!!1 *touches neck* OHHHH."
