View Full Version : Review: AHEAD Drumsticks

Tired of disposable sticks, breaking and buying over and over? A AHEAD stick could fix that problem, but contain underlying problems among the masses.

Although they are remarkably stronger, considering they're made of metal rather than the usual wood sticks. They are expensive, about ~$30 a pair if I remember correctly; dont quote me on it. They have replacable sleeves, but are stubborn and difficult to swap out sometimes. I find that they sound quite dull on several areas, such as cymbals and crossticking.

The largest issue with AHEAD sticks are that they are much more dense than a wood, even more than cymbals. This can cause a huge issue with cracking cymbals, which can be much more troublesome than breaking sticks.

Overall, my suggestion would be not to use them. There are some neat features about them that would be convenient, theres too much of a risk for your cymbals. I find they sound bland as well (at least I think so), and, a lot of fellow drummers will cringe at the sight of them. No offense to anyone who chooses to use them; I'm just giving my opinion and feedback on them.

PS: How well is this review written? Strengths and weaknesses? Validity and/or effectiveness of argument? A scale from 0-10 would be nice :)

Thanks for future responses.

A bit brief, and doesn't appear to be written from direct experience with the product, which kind of defeats the purpose of a review.

Ah, I see your point. I have owned and used them though, I guess my perspective and support took the wrong approach?

OK....just didn't sound you were speaking from direct experience the way you wrote it.

I think you should make it a little more organized and a little more in-depth and it'll go straight to the gear review thread.

If you choose to re-write it, please edit your first post.

You could give a little more of a description of the product and pictures could help as well. break down what components there are and what characteristics they have...

Add on some pros and cons... give it a rating out of 5 or 10 and give you own personal opinion about where you stand in terms of being for the product or againsts it?

numbered ratings suck. They are useless.

More pros, cons, description would improve it a lot

Very true, you can condense it down to "Aheads are crap." and it'd be just fine.

Actually, I found that to be quite humorous! However, for a formal review, you'd want to make that point a little more graciously!

Haha they do have one amazing attribute though, how they've stayed on the market for so long...

I'd even venture to say, despite their ad's - wood sticks are better for your hands.

I found a brilliant drumming related use for them.

who's the guy on here that uses a stick to hold his cowbell?

he could use an ahead, it'd be like using a stand

Your obvious bias and lack of concrete evidence makes this a worthless review. The same information could have been divulged from any MX member simply by saying the word "AHead" in any thread. Any thread at all.

Thank you for an honest input, I appreciate it. I should have put more thought into it before making this thread.

What I have seen in many other reviews is a biased and opinionated support as well though. Would they still be valid reviews then, or is your input biased as well due to the subject being so controversial?

PS: I wont be putting in effort to revise my review. Thank you for your responses.

True, but at least the TS took the time and effort to create a new thread about it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if the TS had put anything positive into his review without countering his own point with a negative point, he'd get flamed for promoting the use of AHEAD sticks.

Basically I feel that if he took the effort to do a review on a pair of AHEAD sticks, we shouldn't flame him that it's too brief. We could make suggestions to him on how he could improve his review, but some of the comments here regarding his review was just uncalled for. If you don't have anything to say about another person's review, the best thing to do would be to move on to another thread.

TS: Maybe you could have included stuff such as how the sticks felt when you held them in your hand, how it responded when you hit different parts of the drum, and maybe include in how long the plastic sleeves lasted for you.
