I want to know who the most timeless rock and metal groups of all time are to you. They can be new or old, heavy or melodic, balladic or screamy. Whatever, as long as you think they're timeless.
To me it has to be:
White Zombie/Rob Zombie
Aerosmith
Papa Roach
Apocalyptica

How is Papa Roach timeless? Surely they're the definition of disposable. They rode the nu-metal wave, were popular for a bit, but in retrospect, they're pretty cheesy.
Timeless implies not following a trend and just doing whats popular and doing something different which isn't done to death.

White Zombie and Apocalyptica yes, but Aerosmith was classic rock and roll and while they stood out, they were within what was going on at the time. Papa Roach was part of the rap rock/metal movement which was very much not timeless.

That's a possibility. It's interesting that they are the only great band, indeed the only good band in a shitty genre.

Meh, if you're lumping them into the nu metal scene, there's still bands that stick out like Deftones who are quality.

They've all been around, and been big for 20+ years now.
I'd suggest they're all pretty much timeless

AC/DC's songs are a lot more enjoyable when you imagine them being sung by an old women in a wheelchair swinging an oxygen tank.

i'd hoped it wouldn't be. but it seems people prefer dissing other peoples opinions rather than just mentioning their own.
Who cares if person A doesn't think person B's ideas of timeless bands are any good, its person B's opinion.
Luc214
08-28-2007, 03:12 PM
But if person B's idea of a timeless band is Mudvayne they don't deserve to have an opinion lol.
MetalSpine
08-28-2007, 05:03 PM
And anyone who thinks like that doesn't deserve to be able to voice theirs. Timeless has different conotations to different people. Much like I think Papa Roach are timeless and nobody else here does, and I think led zeppelin are absolutely terrible but nobody else does. Different opinions, different tatses, different views and only morons stamp on another person's opinions.
Luc214
08-28-2007, 05:07 PM
I was joking. It annoys me though because I see nothing timeless about them.
Timeless implies that the music transcends time, and I fail to see how a band born out of the current fad of nu metal can do that.
Shadius
08-28-2007, 05:08 PM
Timeless acts that I can think of would be like;
Nick Drake
Jeff Buckley
Elliot Smith
Sigur Ros
Radiohead
Talk Talk's last two albums I feel are timeless too...
Tool's Lateralus perhaps?
Mars Volta's De-loused in the Comatorium?
The thing is, often bands have a song or album, or whatever that makes that period pretty obvious roughly when it's from, and production almost always at least subtely gives away the decade (or like 5 years) when an album was released.
You'd be wrong though. Anyone who listens to Papa Roach could tell you they came out of the nu-metal scene in the late 90's to the 00's. Not to mention that rock-rap is pretty cheesy, theres nothing timeless about cheese, rofl.
timeless dosn't mean "I think this band is good".
MetalSpine
08-28-2007, 05:17 PM
You've got to bear in mind that to people of the current era, music like Mudvayne will seem timeless. I mean any fanboy or fangirl will think their favourite bands are timeless, even (god help me) Fall Out Boy and any other run of the mill, mass produced mainstream band ont he market.
It all depends on a multitude of things. Musical tastes, general likes and dislikes, ability to relate to lyrics, or even if a person has heard of a band. I know people who don't even know who bands like Aerosmith or Led zeppelin are.
Music is a viscious git for opinions lol
