I've noticed cymbals with holes in them on the market such as the sabian ozone. I am toying with buying one but wonder if anyone out there has used or uses one and what they think about it?

don't bother buying it if you are unsure of what it sounds like or are unsure of whether or not it's a sound you want. they offer a nice sound to them, but i don't much care for them.

The sound I got out of cymbals like these were completely different than what I thought it'd be. I hated the sound, but maybe you'd like it. Definently listen to these in person before buying.

I hear they're very trashy for crash cymbals.
I'd go play a couple though.

they sound like what you would expect cymbals with big gaping holes to sound like. Thin, sorta pathetic, would make an interesting picture frame though.

There's a good video of Dave Weckl using one, here:

So you can get an idea of what it sounds like, or maybe there are clips on the Sabian website.

Note: Buying a cymbal with holes in it will not make you play like dave weckl.

damn, weckl is a badass. also, i agree that making a picture frame out of them would be a better use for them.

I'm gonna go against the grain here and say I like the sound of them, but that said, I don't own one, and there are quite a few things I'll be getting before I get one of them.

If you like the sound, they're great. If you like the sound.

Thanks peoples, that's what I'm worried about not liking it when I hear it in person. One of my heros Flo Mournier uses them and they sound good but it may be dissapointing in person like when I bought a sabian "kang" china splash. I will wait until I can hear in person.

I really can't get along with the AAX O-Zone splashes, they're so quiet! I found them to be a bit flimsy and pathetic tbh but that's just me.

The HHX O-Zone crashes are kind of like the bridge between crashes and chinas. Still crashy, and still trashy. Personally, I'd have my whole kit covered in them if I had the money :)

I'm just waiting for the day I get my stick caught in one of the Ozone holes...

just keep in mind that a cymbal NEVER sounds the same from 20' out as it does from 2" away.

yeah i've always wanted to see someone totally get their stick snatched by a hole mid song

16" O-Zone is my next purchase.

'nuff said.

HHX, of course, for those who don't know of my AAX hatred.
