So I was fiddling on the guitar and I came up with a neat riff/progression thing. Not wanting to forget it, I set about writing it down. But then, I realized I was in my studio, and I thought "I'll just record it" and then I thought "I'll just add drums and an organ to it to make it spiffy!"
So this is a 55 second demo of a very simple idea drawn largely out of proportions, but its fun and kicks ***.

yeah, its really weird. When I just drum to myself, I hate my playing, I think I suck, I find all sorts of problems. But when I play with music or other musicians, its like my playing comes alive.
I know most drummers play better by themselves, but I play best when playing with others (or at least with other music).

Here's a new one I just made too. The distorted guitar at the end has a really shitty tone, but meh.

Sounds good man. You have a nice sound.. good use of dynamics too. what kinda recording setup you got.. preamps..? Interface? daw? I really like the sound your getting from your cymbals.. what overheads are you using? My drumming def comes alive when I play with others. I get writers block when I play alone.

I use a Presonus Firestudio for my preamps and recording interface. My DAW is Cubase LE (came with the Firestudio, works perfectally for my needs). My overheads are two RODE NT2-A mics.
Any other comments? C'mon people.

Most people have the Firepod or whatever its called nowadays. Not surprising, they were $600 for the longest time but they dropped them to $400, which is a ****ing steal. I have the Firestudio, which is a step up, but $700 :(
Man, only two responders?

the tomatoe song..... definitely better than the other one. the ocarina... no. it was outta time a lot too.
guitar sounds good in the tomatoe. Haven't decided about the organ thing.
drums sound ace though. snare sounds van halen-ish. Toms sound... tommy. the cymbals are what i like best. Kick is meh, a bit... void of frequency. for the guitar i wanna hear a thick, fat kick, and this one has some punch and some rumble but no... meat. dunno if that helps.

I considered the firepod but I went with a modded digi 001.. and I use a seperate preamp. Its about the same price for the whole deal.

I'm actually pretty content with my drum sound now, I think all i have to do is to tweak the drums to the song, and even then I don't have to do much. I might still have to work on the bass drum a little to give it some more omph without it being overbearing. I considered multi-band compression but the nice guys over at homerecording.org yelled at me for even uttering that word.
Yeah I really like my cymbal sound. I remember you were saying they sounded muffled, I just boosted a tad above 5khz and it really brought everything alive.
I think the guitar tone is more me then the actual guitar. That and I'm using a Crate Solid State amp. N00b player + crate = not good :)
The organ part I'm kinda tweaking. I take the raw organ track off my keyboard (which is a Casio, so you can forgive me) throw on a phaser to get a Leslie-like effect, then put heavy distortion on it to get that Jon Lord sound I'm in love with right now. Unfortunately, I think I need better distortion plug-ins.

pah, just put a cheap mic on your keyboard speakers, plenty of natural distortion right there! :P

hahaha, right.
I tried putting it into an amp, but I couldn't get it to distort :(

Here's a new demo I recorded. For some odd reason, when I was thinking of my guitar playing, I was thinking the Allman Brothers, so I decided to name it All Men. No, its not a gay anthem.
Mostly lead playing in this one, rather then chordal based. Its in bad need of a bass instrument, the sound spectrum is seriously empty down under, so I'll have to wait until I can get a hold of a bass guitar. But enjoy.

EDIT: Oh yeah, finally got the keyboard sound I want. Gain up to 10, volume only up to like 2-3 and it was fricken LOUD! Its dirty as hell too.

Oh c'mon, NO COMMENTS? Jesus people, stop whoring pictures and listen to actual audio, since that's all what drumming is about, right?

Great stuff man, I really like your odd time (5/4?) intro, and the drums overall. Guitar is a little weak, but very good for your level of experience (1 month!).

yah man for 1 month of starting recording your doing pretty good, I'd have to say though the learning curve for recording starts of really steep, and then flattens out later. It's like, to sound good you need to know a bit of everything. then you fine tune.
