Sry if this has been done before but it came up in GD:
What would've happened if the South had been left to secede from the Union? When would slavery have ended? How would the economy have progressed? Human and civil rights? Where would the South have come down in WW1 and WW2? How would it be today?

Harry Turtledove wrote like 10 books on the subject of the C.S.A winning the Civil War. I found a quick summary of what he wrote from a review about one of his books:
Harry Turtledove's alternative history continues to intrigue, inspire, and sometimes fatigue me. In this world, the South won the Civil War and then defeated the US again in the Second Mexican War in the early 1880s. In World War I the CSA joined Britain, France, and Russia in a war against the USA, Germany, and Austria-Hungary. After the CSA and its allies were defeated in 1917, they slid into fascist style dictatorships and began to prepare for a war of revenge. World War II began in 1941 and now rages across the globe.
And then he has more books dealing with this hypothetical WWII which has the U.S having a Socialist President, General Patton leading a blitzgreig from the South all the way to Lake Erie and a Stalingrad like battle inside Pittsburgh.

I think that Slavery would have ended on its own... But it would have been a good 50+ years at the least.
I can tell you one thing though, if the south hadn't lost, I'd be ****ing rich :(

By this point in time, the South would have in-bred itself out of existence and the North would have walked in and taken it back without a fight.

i read the first book in yhat seris. its really intresting. in it blacks gain "freedom" but they are still treated like slaves, earning extreamly low wages and used for manual labor. also they have to use passbooks, with out them any whites can beat them and such. (even with them, they have a good chance of being beaten.)

I saw the mockumentary and it was pretty enjoyable; a lot of laugh-out-loud moments for me.
Other than that, I'd have no clue.

this is a stupid concept
the csa would have to be nothing like the csa in order to have won the civil war

Its pointless to try and conjecture 200 years of history because as we all know 1 small seeminly insignificant thing can change everything. Theres no way anyone can do that. Its fun to try though

I read most of his books. They're pretty good.

My earlier post got some interesting responses on User CP, so I would just like to take this moment to re-emphasize my earlier statements in this thread...

The Harry Turtledove books are probably my favorite book series of all time. I've been reading them since middle school, getting them as they come out each year. I think the latest one came out a few weeks ago, must check it out.

hellz ya pgh 4 lyfe
Im also pretty sure the main issue of the civil war wasnt slavery but more on tarrifs. I think slavery was dying out anyways and wouldve become obsolete in a couple of decades because of new technology.

george w. bush would have invaded the South and returned it to the Union. also he wouldnt be speaking with a Texas accent because he would have stayed in New England where he was born

He wouldn't have been elected in the first place. If i remember correctly the south was where he got alot of his votes from.

but Al Gore is from the Confederate state of Tennessee so there's a wide-open chance for ParallelBush to rule
