Bill Gates?
Steve Jobs?
To me, not likely. I'm sitting at my friend's apartment table on a computer because I was going to look up an artist for him to check out and explore (Mike Kinsella), and now he's sitting on the couch because using the internet is a solitary experience. So I think eventually, doing any number of things on the internet will facilitate group social activities like LAN parties do now. ** Myspace and Facebook socialize the internet more than anything else right now, but the act of using the sites is itself a solitary activity is my point with that. So yeah, discuss if you wish, or link me if you already have.
** edit: Before someone says something, I figured I'd add that my example was of using computers on a network socially, this being the case even though you dont have to go online to play games on a LAN. the idea is using whatever devices we use the internet on... for whatever reason... as a social activity with IRL interaction. Things like the iPhone step in this direction, making it easy to access anything online conveniently so that for example, in a social situation you could order a pizza. Or make a video call on Skype to your friend who has something to pick it up and say "Hey I just left I'm on my way." Or Aunt Debbie and Uncle Josiah can shop for a new boring *** piece of furniture to rot with them in their smelly home. But since they both have the vision of a goldfish, they use a projector and order it from eBay on their Nintendo Wii they got way back in 2007.
