This is the only recording of pianist Hasaan Ibn Ali and he joins the Max Roach trio. Hasaan has a very eclectic style, bringing up phrases that sound like Thelonius Monk, Andrew Hill, and Herbie Nichols.

Max Roach was a brilliant musician and a true innovator, may he rest in peace.
