i dont know if this idea has been done already or not, but i thought it was a good idea. what my idea is, is everyone nominate a few songs for the list and when we have a decent sized list people will vote for the top 10. if this has already been done then i apologize and just close this.
it would be a good idea to put who the song was originally by aswell
if anyone else wants to actually participate then just put in a few nominations :)

disturbed - land of confusion (didnt even know this was a cover , can someone tell me who originally did it) I'm 95% sure that was originally done by Genesis. Lemme look it up real quick.
EDIT: Yep, Genesis wrote it. In Flames also did a cover of it back in 2003.

Iced Earth do some pretty mean covers. Other than those:
Death - painkiller (Judas Priest)
Antrax - sanitarium (Metallica)
Machine Head - battery (Metallica)
Marilyn Manson - tainted love
that Mercyful Fate medley Metallica did
and then Dream Theater have done a few cover medleys as well which are always a good listen
Flotsam & Jetsam do a wicked cover of Battery.
Least I *think* it was them.

That version is so much better than the one they actually released. Patton handles it so much better than Puciato.

I can actually get pretty close, I wish James would mix the old OTDB recordings.
Even so, main point isn't to sound like the singer, but to not butcher his work either.

Too many people have a hard on for Chucky.
Apocalyptic Raids
09-04-2007, 01:42 AM
True. I was probably over reacting when I said it sucks, but really, Death's cover is just a note-for-note copy of the original and brings nothing new to it. The only difference is Chuck's lame TSOP-era vocals instead of Halford's falsetto.
Angmar

You just have an odd hatred towards any Death past Spiritual Healing :(

Death's cover is just a note-for-note copy of the original and brings nothing new to it.
You make that sound like a bad thing.
Anyway, there's enough variation to make it interesting enough to listen to.
I don't listen to Death, and love Priest, but I prefer Death's cover over the original
