White Stripes

Up until about a month ago the only song I had ever heard by the White Stripes was "Seven Nation Army". I didn't really like the song that much though so I never really attempted to get into the band. Anyway, about a month ago I downloaded Icky Thump and I think it's a really incredible album. Really, really great stuff IMO. I still haven't heard anything else of their stuff but that'll change. What do you guys think about this band?

white stripes are great. icky mettle isn't their best in my opinion. i've always thought that white blood cells was their best, so definately check that out.

Icky Thump is their best album since their debut. I really haven't liked anything in between.

I like them. Jack White is a very talented songwriter. I think Ball and Biscuit I'd say is my favourite song, but that might be because you could sing the lyrics to "Lemon Song" by Led Zeppelin and it would fit the song perfectly haha.

I agree wholeheartedly. Icky Thump and Get Behind Me Satan are really not representative of their real work.

When I saw em they were shi'thouse hey. It was on the Get Behind Me Satan tour and they deliberatly fuc'ked with all their old stuff to make it more "in line" with the horrible crap on "Satan".

I saw them a few weeks ago promoting Icky Thump. The show ruled, the venue was awful.

Jack was really on point, but he kept getting all these feedback which started to piss him off.

It was a great show overall, though.

The stuff that hits the radio is so-so. Their first album (self titled I think...) and De Stijl are fu'cking awesome. But only if you like your music stripped back, basic and bluesy. If you're into all that big fancy Opeth/Pink Floyd/Dream Theatre stuff you will hate them.

Not exactly the sort of stuff I normally listen to but Icky Thump has a great riff. Incidently the title came from his wife who is from Northern England.

I wouldn't say they are hyped that much these days. Around the time Elephant came out I'd agree with you, but now not so much.

Get Behind Me Satan is horrible.
I'm not 100% positive on Icky Thump yet.
But everything from Elephant and back is A-OK to me...

Go buy Blackpool Lights. It's a completely different sound live.
