its not zero insertion force you need to push it in quite hard and when i did that the corner snapped off but its okay it works now i guess it was just for aesthetic purpose and that guy is a noob he probably doesnt even know what html is

md5 is a checksum. you use it to verify you have downloaded correctly and there is no corruption.

some people prefer to download movies in the actual DVD format due to it usually being better quality (though larger).

Plus it's nice to have the flexibility of being able to burn it to DVD without having to re-encode it

I know its not a USB, thats because I couldn't find any USB adapters compatible with Win98.

ok because most pcs don't have a back panel. yes of course you need to open your case. i think you should google and rtfm if you dont even know what pci is..
you just plug it into a free pci slot on the motherboard. it's not hard.

Does any one know how to format a hard-disk to a FAT32 file system using a PC??

I have xp installed at home (i dont have an XP CD though) and when I choose format i just get the NTSC file option. I have to use the damn HarDisk on the PC and a mac (at college) so It has to be a FAT32 system.

FYI: i have a 320 GB external hard-disk.

the m$ answer is you can't.
but it should really be you shouldn't.
If the disk is formatted in NTFS you cannot convert the disk to use the FAT or FAT32 file system. Microsoft does not support any third-party solutions for converting NTFS to FAT or FAT32.you can't do it with windows. you have to download something.
i recommend partitionmagic and if you want i can upload it. 50mb

No windows is on my internal HD , I just want to format my External HD. There are no partitions no it. its just like a blob of 300 gb space on there.

Get Daemon Tools.

Once it's installed right click the icon on the desktop, go to Virtual CD/Emulation, pick a drive and mount the cue file for CD1. When asked for CD2, unmount CD1 and mount the cue for CD2.

i was trying to fix a few bugs today on our exchange server at work, and a genuine yet ever so unfortunate URL: www.msexchange.org (http://www.msexchange.org) :lol:


anywho, i got 1 thing left to fix, which is so awkward to search for i cant find a solution, so if anyone has any ideas about MS Outlook 2003 and exchange servers:

when we upgraded to an exchange server and ms outlook 2k3, i just exported all the mail/contacts/etc to a backup file, then imported them back in again in to the new outlook.

the contacts appeared under the contact tabs fine, but when you go to new mail, and press to, you get a dialog box which shows you all your contacts, but nobody on the networks contacts appear there

if you start to type they do show up in the auto fill lists but apprently that is not a satisfactory work around \:D/

in global address list you do get all the network users, and distribution groups.

Usually yes, it's like installing from a CD and taking the CD out after you've installed. So unless you need the CD to run the game, delete away.

It's usually a patch. It replaces the launch file created by the installation with one that bypasses the CD issue.

Download the last one, and there should be an exe file in the archive or a program that runs and installs the patch itself (instead of you just copying and pasting the executable into the directory you installed it).

Copy and paste the file Shogun.exe from that archive into the directory you installed the game and replace the original one in there. There's a readme in there anyway if you run into any problems.

It still doesnt work :(. I get to the screan and it goes into oppening credits cinematics but then it goes dark and all i can hear is the sounds and then a error message appears(the one with send error report or dont send).

Are your sure you got the no-cd for the right version of the game? If you haven't patched the game I'd guess it should be the version 1.0 crack, if you have patched/updated the game you need to get the corresponding no-cd for that version.

Go to the control panel then to regional and language options and make sure that it's set up for the UK. This happened to my keyboard a few weeks ago but now it's all good.

on regional options tab set to english.
languages tab> details. add english uk. remove us. click apply it will say it needs to restart and some ****. ignore that and remove it again then hit apply. it will be gone this time.

Major Problem... Everytime i log on and go away and it goes to the main logging screen and another person trys to log in say my sister.. It freezes the whole computer. its gets annoying 2 people can be logged on at the same time.. Any1 know why this is happening?

Those all look good if you're willing to spend the cash, you could probably save some money if you were interested in looking at an AMD processor as oppose to the Intel one, I have no experience with those components so I can't be the judge on any of them. If you were willing to wait, you could buy a DX10 card once decent ones start coming out next year.

Okay, generic suggestions-


Run virus and spyware scans.
Update Windows.


Then check and see if it still crashes.

Delete/uninstall anything you don't need on C:
Download and install this - http://www.ccleaner.com/
Run it, this should free up some more space and make things a bit easier.


To transfer files (assuming it's USB) just plug the external drive into a USB port on your laptop and it should recognise it when you plug it in, go to My Computer (assuming you're running Windows) and in there you should see an icon representing the external drive, then you can just drag and drop files into it.

I don't have experience with External HDDs but you might need to partition it before Windows will see it in My Computer.

Well if you are comfortable with overclocking then you always do that. C2Ds have rediculously low thermals so you could overclock it alot on air cooling alone. You could also swap the cpu with a higher end LGA 775 C2D down the road if you find you need it.

I'm running a dual boot w/ Vista and after 25 seconds without selecting an option (at startup) Vista boots automatically. Is there any way to change this default to XP?control panel > system > advanced tab > startup and recovery settings > there are some dropdowns and en edit button to edit the text file manually.

Thanks for the links. And no, I'm not using a router. Last time I used a torrent client though, half my downloads wouldn't even start, and the ones that did didn't work once I tried using them.

The performance increase is pretty decent but some of the support is lacking. My PodXT doesn't have drivers for it as well as lots of other stuff. Personally I would go with Vista. I plan on changing over from XP-64 to Vista before long.

Just plug it in and go, try setting the drive jumper to slave if there are any problems.

yup. it will just see the windows as data files and run it the exact same as a usb flash disk. plug it in and drag over what you want. run a scandisk and undeletor/restorer if you need to then copy over what you want.

Get Windows Defender and/or Spybot Search And Destroy. Both of which you should have if you don't already and both of which have easy to use features to stop whatever program you want from running at start up. There is also a way to do this through the computer, but meh. These programs are simple to use. Easy as that.

Adjust the xp settings mroe towards performace, or uncheck the boxes you dont want. Ok it wont look as nice but helps things go a little faster.

ok my mother****ing **** brother was using internets and idk what he did but here are the problems im having:

- the wheel on my mouse won't scroll up or down
- when i click any link, itll open up into a new window (bad)

- sometimes, when the CAPS lock key is on, its all lowercase, when its off, its all upper case

I just bought an internal hard drive, and its only ATA. The only ATA port I have is occupied by my two disc drives. Can I somehow get my hard drive connected into that same port.

you have two ide slots on the motherboard correct?
you also have a current hard drive how is that connected? sata?
should be a case of putting both optical drives in one ide socket on the mobo then the ide hard drive (or two) on the other.

From what I could tell there was only one IDE (that's the same as ATA, right?) port on the motherboard, and that has my two disc drives hooked into that with the whole slave-master thing going on. My regular hard drive is SATA.

the answer is no. maximum two per port.
you could get a pci ide card to give you more sockets or turn it into an external. because you can't use it without getting rid of your optical drives. i would just get a sata drive now tbh they are better anyway. and try and return that.

That's not really practical for huge things though, unless you want to wait ages while it's all compressed and stuff.

But if it's a small archive of, let's say, some type of photograph, it should work.

Tooltips are what you are looking for. I've never used Opera but I googled and their KB says "To enable or disable tooltip popups in Opera, go to Preferences > Windows and toggle the "Show tooltips" option."

K, so I recently started to use my mom's laptop while my computer is getting fixed. I have all my music on an external and it's all loaded into WMP. Recently, whenever I try and use WMP to burn cds, it doesn't work. It will tell me there is an error. I know it's not the disk I am using because I bought new ones and all that. It gets to like 99% completion then the error pops up and the cd ejects. If I try playing the cd, it's usually just the first song. It used to work just fine so I have no clue what the deal is now.

it sounds like you have the protection enabled on .wma's in which case idk how to get around it other than going on the pc you ripped them from

I'm having mouse problems.

My laser mouse (yeah, first problem right there :mad: ) is always bugging out. My courser will dart across the screen of it's own free will, it'll stutter across the screen when the mouse is sitting perfectly still, and when I play games.. well, let's just say I haven't been able to play an FPS on my computer in months. It makes it difficult to track a target when your sights keep flying straight up above you and spinning in circles.

Is there a way to fix this? This is the second mouse I've bought and I really can't afford to keep replacing them.

You mean optical right? The biggest problem I've found with opticals is that a tiny particle, ie a small hair or dust, gets into the path of the laser and screws everything up. So clean it out, get something strong like compressed air to really clear it, a hair can just get stuck in there and it's bloody annoying to get out.

Other than that, get a mechanical one.

Get a Logitech mx series wired optical mouse, they fit your hand perfectly and work well on any surface (aside from glass durr).

jxd you hit find servers button. then when it finishes loading the list of servers you can sort by ping or players or map or w/e then join. i will take a screen when i get home. make sure your firewall isn't blocking it too. you should see servers if it says its running a different version you need to update the game. also click client options and please change from player. and then if you want you can change your model and logo too.
i have an mx510 and love it also. i used to get rsi so i was picky with ergonomix but logitech shape is great. and it was like £25 at the time so idk what that is in ur $. use a mousepad that is of uniform colour and surface. if you use something like a magazine with many colours it will go crazy. and ball mice get dirty far more. you have to clean optical far less but that doesnt mean never.
do not get lazer or ball mice buy an optical mouse. there was a case for ball mice being more accurate in the highest end needs so some gamers used to use them but it's not an issue with most mice any more. optical has caught up and is better than ball. i wouldnt go with laser yet though. and just stay away from wireless, wired is still miles better and the batteries running flat and weight and things all get annoying anyway. theres not enough point in wireless to put up with all the shi imo.

It takes probably a week or so to get fully adjusted to one, but once you do, you will never want to use a normal mouse again! I've been using trackballs for years now and will continue to do so. Carpal tunnel what? Not with this beast. I can use it for 16 hours of work and not feel a thing. And gaming... I can shoot a fly off someones arm at 300 yards within a second. Including squatting down and zooming in.

Trackballs are an acquired taste so don't let the majority stop you from having the most ergonomical and accurate mouse around. You also don't need to clear a huge area for your jumbo mouse pad because you don't have to move this. It's also rediculously easy to clean. Pop the ball out and wipe off the inside. It can be done before the next BF2 map even loads up.

I currently have a wired network setup with the three computers in my house. After some problems, we finally decided to go wireless.
I'm planning on buying this router and flashing it with dd-wrt.

To save some money, is it possible to just buy 2 network adapters for two computers and use an ethernet cable for the third? The third computer will be really close the router, modem, and phone line so spending extra cash for it be wireless seems pointless. The other two computers will be in other rooms though.

also, any recommendations for the network cards? I would prefer them to be under $30.

EDIT: trackballs are indeed awesome. My dad broke mine out of anger when something on the computer wasn't working. I'm using a gay standard mouse (not optical) now.

languages tab> details. add english uk. remove us. click apply it will say it needs to restart and some ****. ignore that and remove it again then hit apply. it will be gone this time.

Any ideas what I could do to fix it?

I was thinking that there's not enough paste on the chip which isn't letting the heat transfer to the heat sink properly or summat so it's not cooling properly.

how long since you did the thermal paste? or is it the thermal pad that came on the heatsink? because you need to get rid of that crap and use arctic silver 5.

I havn't put new paste on there in ages, I think when it kept shutting down for different reason, probably a year and a half ago. I took the heat sink off this morning and there isn't much paste left, like a little.

So paste and compressed air!

when putting on the paste remember you don't want lots on there. less is better you want the thinnest layer you can get. so put on a tiny blob then spread it with a razor or the side of a credit card or something so you have a uniform thin spread. and make sure you clean the old stuff off as best as you can. you can get cleaner things but idk if you want to go that far. basically all the paste is doing is filling the microscopic holes on the surface of the heatspreader on the processor. it sort of melts and sets after the pc being on and off a few times and creates a thin layer between that and the heatsink. if it's too thick it won't conduct the heat well you just want to create a contact. there shouldnt really be less than there was and it shouldnt be any dryer or anything. make sure you use arctic silver this time.

i set my speakers, so that that they play music, and my headset can play other sounds

and since i did that, when i am playing games, with the music on after a while, the mouse cursor stops reacting to mouse movement (buttons are fine still) (closing winamp = an (unacceptable) workaround)


i never installed my mouse drivers (it just worked after plugging in, so i couldnt be bothered!) , so i will try that tonight


but seeing as i have proposed a solution to myself, i dont know why i posted that, apart from i have wrote it all out now and lets not let it go to waste :D

try this real quick. make sure the keyboard and the language are both yours. then restart anc check the connector on the keyboard has no dust or anything.

Do they have a network status page or something similar so can confirm that the game server is actually up?

Depending what kind of router you have, it may not give your computer the right number. Some routers will assign the ip's based on what machine connects first which could be a problem if you are port forwarding to a specific machine. So check your router setup to make sure it isn't like this.

Yeah I emailed their support and they just tell me to forward my ports, when I told them I have, so their servers are probably up.

i got an mp3 player, and when i plug in mp3-usb-pc, it says it cannot be read, in both wmp, and it wont show up as removable disk in my computer

its not the cable or mp3 player because i plugged it into my laptop downstairs, and everything shows up, i can listen to the songs, transfer back and to, which i cannot do on my pc up here

i know the usb connector things and shi work because i hooked up my camera to it and i can get it to be seen on removable disk and transfers etc...

so any idea on what to do/suggestions?

Even though I've had the program forever. Then A window appears and says this a bunch of times"The CODEC required to compress 'C:\Documents and Settings\Matt\My Documents\My Music\Children of Bodom\Will 1\01 Track 1.mp3' could not be opened."

But when I select it and click "OK", nothing happens. I get brought back to the list of programs, but VLC does not get selected and the list remains the same. Anyone have an idea of what's up?

You're choosing vlc.exe? Reinstall.

It should work, I have VLC as my default for avis.

personally the only problems i have with it are that it is symmetrical, which can be uncomfortable and the driver sucks but that isnt even that important

Do any of you know how to get a computer microphone to play back its input as soon as it receives it?

just mess with these options.
start>control panel>sounds and audio devices>advanced.
you may need to go into options>properties and check mic (with playback radio button pressed) to get the slider for it. then just turn the mic up.
im assuming you just want to talk and hear it through the speakers. as soon as it recieves it meaning you dont have to record then play back.

I was using my laptop earlier, then I left it for about ten minutes and came back and the touchpad does not work anymore, the buttons don't click and the cursor doesn't move. I have a USB mouse plugged in that works fine. I went to the properties and it says it's enabled. If I disable it and then click Enable again it works for a few moments then dies on me again. Any suggestions?

What should I be looking for when buying a cheap external hard drive? I have 120GB on my computer, and that just isn't holding up anymore.

I saw a MAXTOR 100GB External Hard Drive for $60, which seems like a bargain. Features:

Is that a good deal, and is this hard drive any good?
