Sup guys
Ive been into jam bands for going on a year now and i absolutely love listening to them, playing jam songs and especially seeing them live. What do you guys think of them?
What are your favorites to listen to? Good jams you have heard, Favorite one you saw live? Also if there are some smaller or unknown jam bands youd like people to listen to then post that too. I love listening to new jam bands.

Well my favorites would be The Dead, moe., Phish, Tea Leaf Green, The Disco Buscuits and Umphrey's Mcgee. I saw moe and it was the best show ive seen. Umphrey and Tea Leaf Green also put on a fantastic show, so if you ever get a chance check those dudes out.

Eh, I don't really like jam bands. I like Dave Matthews Band's radio songs, but IMO their concerts are just an excuse to smoke up, which i think is retarded (smoking in general and needing an excuse). I think people should leave the jamming to practice time and use it to write songs rather than just drawn out boring crap.

Tea Leaf Green is pretty good as is Phish and Widespread Panic. String Cheese Incident is pretty popular too. You should check them out.

I hate jam bands, they're boring as hell, it's washed-up forty-something losers trying to recapture their youth but utterly failing mixed with more bros than you can shake a natty ice at

no thnx

Umphrey's Mcgee is cool.

I like Umphrey's McGee, Moe., The String Cheese Incident, Keller Williams, and that's about it.

Jam is all my brother listens to, it drives me crazy because I can hear his stereo across the house, and a lot of it is extremely lame.

i saw moe. live
they were pretty lame

My brother's seen them like 20 times, he said they were awesome every time, except one time last year, and he refused to see them again until they played the same festival [10,000 Lakes] as Umphrey's McGee. He said they don't try to be epic, and are just fun/funny again.

Though I don't really trust my brother's opinion on music really, he is really into the White Stripes.

i'd rather listen to the white stripes than moe. or phish or grateful dead or what have you

White Stripes = terrible, Moe. = really fun when you're high and in 9th grade, I really haven't listened to them since.

I still really do like Umphrey's McGee and String Cheese though... New Monsoon is cool too.

Tea Leaf Green is the best damn band on the planet. I'm too bored to name a bunch of bands, but I'll give you a couple lesser known bands to check out- Assembly of Dust, Scarecrow Collection, U-Melt, Ryan Montbleau Band.

well i take it moe isnt really like here lol. whatever. They're good music to me and I enjoy them. Yeah another band that i forgot to mention would be the Dave Matthews Band. To be honest i cant listen to their studio but i love thier live stuff.

Oh and what are you favorite Tea Leaf Green songs? I personally love The Garden
On Itunes you can subscribe to thier and Umphrey's Podcast and get a huge amount of music. You can get easily like a weeks worth of listening. Just something to check out. If you look at their description they jam with warren haynes and disco biscuits. Good music there. No Icky Thump either lol

There's actually this local jam band around here called Bob Johnson that are SERIOUSLY cool. They're all like 17 or so, but they make some terrific music.

First of all Dave Matthews is gay and should not be mentioned in here.

Second of all I like jam bands.

I don't really like Umphrey's that much but Pick Up the Pieces is such a good song

String Cheese is amazing it's too bad they're almost done

yeah i notice DMB is either hit or miss. I dont think they are jam band but they certainly appeal to many people who listen to jam music.

String Chesse is mad good, Im going to see Keller Williams tomarrow for a free concert.

OH! Its the anniversary of Jerry death. I plan on listening to about 12hrs of the dead and jamming out to dark star or something

His death anniversary is tomorrow.

Listening to 1985-10-29 right now, great show. Really nice Bird Song so far

Yeah his anniversary is tomorrow. There's like a 5% chance I'll see tlg tomorrow. They're around but my parents won't let me go cause I have mono.

Favorite Tea Leaf Green song would be impossible for me. The Garden is pretty good stuff though, especially when they play a full Garden suite like on 2005-6-30:
The Garden I >
Moonshine >
Garden II >
Garden III >
Precious Stone >
Can You Guess It?

I'd say my favorite song at the moment would be Piss it Away or Red Ribbons, both of which are relatively new.

To be honest i cant listen to their studio but i love thier live stuff.

a gamecube festival while wearing sandals and drinking natty ice with my bros with a good dmb record playing in the background is my idea of a perfect evening

The community you find at a dmb show in general is not the same as you would find at a show by a real jamband. I guess you could count dmb as a real jamband but personally I don't like them and don't include them although I guess they do jam a bit.

Funny how there is mention of a gamecube and none of a girl...

And i see why you like the white stripes better than moe lol

It's pretty chilled, but then again, I listen to mainly metal, so my chilled could be different to yours.

Track #3 on their self-titled if you're interested in the original. Very good band.

Right now i'm listening to 10/17/74. Ridiculous The Other One.

That's the Other One sequence on the movie/soundtrack right?

If so, then yea that's an amazing jam in and around the Other One theme, into a nice Stella too even that SB bores me most of the time.

Just kicked into 11-2-84, Jack Straw opener...looks promising

Edit: Jack Straw>Peggy-O, very nice

Edit 2: lol Bob is noobing this El Paso hardcore

I saw Keller Williams last nite. Awesome show. He bought the house that Jerry Garcia built i believe. Yeah he did Scarlet Begonnias and Fire on the Mountain. During the Scarlet song, he was singing like, "I knew right away she wasnt like other girls... She was into other girls" That was cracking me up lol. Plus he did a little jam with a jaw harp which if you know anything about music is the sickest insturment ever invent. No Joke.

Yeah it's the show with the Other One from the movie. It's such a cool jam. And yeah, Stella Blue bores me most of the time too. It's a nice song but I haven't heard a version that's really captured me yet.

And Keller puts on a fun show. I saw him back in March. Was he solo or with the Keels?

The most insane Stella would be 10-21-78, but there's an AUD patch towards the end that really shoots it down right when the solo is climaxing. Still worth a listen, that show has a cool drum solo>Mojo jam>great Other One>Stella

Stella has really awesome lyrics. Not one of my favorite Dead songs overall, but one of the best lyrically.

Sick DSO show as always, the played 1978-8-30:
1: Promised, Sugaree, Mexicali> Mama Tried, Stagger Lee, L. L. Rain, Deal
2: Miracle, B. E. Women, Estimated> Other One> Eyes> Drumz> World To Give> Iko Iko> Around E: U. S. Blues
Filler: On the Road Again>Uncle John's Band

Post drums could have been stronger but Iko and U.S. Blues were fun. The Estimated>Other One was intense, probably the highlight. And UJB was a treat

Definitely Umphrey's and Tea Leaf Green is great too. I saw them awhile in San Diego... awesome show! Right on the beach at Wave House... Next I'm off to see the Disco Biscuits downtown at 4th & B. Anyone else in the SD area going? I'm hoping it'll be amazing! Info: http://bit.ly/4e02zh
