At first whenever I see Sage Francis, I first think "when the hell did Dave Attell give up comedy and become a badass MC?" And then I usually remind myself "Oh wait, this is Sage Francis, and yes, he is a badass MC."
If anything, the Human Death Dance album showcases an artist who has paid their dues. Lyrically, Francis is at the top of his game. His lyrical delivery conveys the same level of artistic passion that you may hear at a lame *** open mic night at your local coffee house (but without the lameness, of course), while the actual lyrics themselves illustrate levels of depth and complexity that could never be found in mainstream hip hop.
This album was actually my first introduction to Sage Francis (although I had always read good things about him). I have yet to listen to his previous albums, but in the meantime, I can definitely recommend this one. Let me know what you guys think.
