So I recently decided to buy a new snare, and turn my ludwig accent one onto a tenor drum.
So I remember at a jazz band concert before, I used my band teachers ludwig rocker elite pilocco(sp) snare and loved it.
So im thinking about getting one for a main snare. But Ive never seen anyone use one as a main snare, and wondered if there is a reason for it?
Im looking for a lot of crack, and that drum fit my profile taiste too the letter.
any other imput is welcome.

piccolo snares (snares less than 4" deep) are FULL of crack. they have no real shell tone, so... crack central. More crack than NYC. Put some 30 strand wires on there, too, for some SERIOUS crack.
as for a specific model........ yamaha brass. MMMM Mmmmm mmmmmmmm.....

I hate when rappers try to be hard and say they smoke reefer on the block.
Real thugs use Mandrake.

Pearl Firecracker Steel
Theyre amazing, youll get more crack outta that then you would the normal Fircracker cus thats wooden.
Maybe look into the Pearl Sensitone, if I remember rightly thats similar to a JJ Sig which is an amazing snare, especially if you love a lot of crack attack [whey, thats pretty cool ]

Hmm well then the ones I suggested are definitely ones you should check out.
Especially the Pearl Sensitone or Pearl JJ Signature, I mean, I use the JJ snare to record with, I dont have enough money to buy one so I borrow it for recordings and let me tell you. Its amazing, crack the batter hella tight and that thing is awesome.

I'd save a bit and get the Chad Smith Sig drum, that's an amazing snare. I mean, if you have the money, I guess you could buy a piccolo, but I'd get a good snare that can get a lot of crack but also be tuned other ways for various situations.

If you're playing hard rock a piccolo snare is a bad choice. Get something 5.5-6.5" deep.

something 3-4'' deep won't have much body to it.
the 12x6 musashi is definitely worth a try.

what type of sound will it produce, like a deep crack, or a lot of ring, cause i HATE it when my snare rings.

Yes in hard rock there is crack, but theres also lots of body.
You can tune a deep snare to have lots of crack. My 14x6.5" black beauty has TONS of crack AND body.

Yeah, snares get pricey real easily. I think the Musashi snare is a pretty good choice, everyone who owns them seems to love them to death, I'd try them out.

Yeap, I love my 13x6.5 Musashi Oak. Very loud crack, and depending on what head you get it will determine how it will sound really. I have a PS3 so it is very loud, cracky, but dry as well.

I still recommend you get the snare you wanted at the beginning.

Ya, i did at a jazz concert.
That kit and jazz shouldn't mix very well.
Also, my stock PDP MX snare (14" x 5.5") has a lot of crack and i like it a lot, so maybe any maple snare around those dimensions?
