Yo cats,
I've searched the interweb for yonkers and am lost. Anyone know a boom that'll put a 22" heavy-weight ride over a bass drum at a height of 24 inches? I need it to boom 16" away from it's base and still support the cymbal but stay lowl. Pearl BC-2000 is the only thing I can think of but it doesn't look like it'll get my the horizontal distance i'm after. Cheers for anyone's help.

I know the Yamaha 900 Series is supposed to be pretty light and sturdy. It's also good on the wallet.

Thanks mate but I don't want light and sturdy, I want heavy and sturdy and able to do what I outlined. ilu xo

Well, it is Yamaha's heaviest stand and they've got one with a counter weight, that one's really sturdy. MD took a 22" china and thrashed the one without a counter weight at every angle with the stand fully extended and it didn't tip, fall, or collapse. Just to let you know, cheers!

I'll check it out mate, cheers. I'm not a fan of Yamaha hardware normally, but for you.. :)

 Just a thought dude! I heard that Pearl's hardware is EXTREMELY sturdy, so you might wanna check that out as well.

Pearl hardware is bichin', as is upper end DW but that's not soft on the wallet. May I suggest a yard gnome?

I saw that article.
Yeah...the yammie hardware owns. Especially the 900 stuff.
I have 2 stands. One has a 20" ride, 14" tom, 19" crash, and a 10" splash and it's sturdy as hell.
Basically what you need is something with a really wide bass...which is just what the yamaha has.

Key words is in bold. I don't want to put a bunch of stuff on it at once ETP2.

i know that...i was just stating how sturdy it is. I can take a picture of the stand holding a 20" heavy ride far out and low. I can also stack my other ride on top for extra weight if you'd like.

EDETED: SURE! Didn't mean to come across snappy :).
What's the lowest it can go whilst setup?

oh...i sorta did it anyway:p
Heres the stand holding 2 rides (20" K heavy ride, and 20" AA Medium Ride) over a 22" bass drum for reference.
NOTE: The stand held the 20" K heavy by itself between the legs without problem (no wobble what-so-ever) so i'm sure it could handle your 22.
Granted there is a little bit of wobble in the arm itself but with all that weight stretched that far out, what do you expect?

Cheers bud! So is that the Yamaha 900?
I want to have my 22" K Heavy about 65% over my bass
so I can have a 20" K in reaching distance above that,
so i want the 22" at about 24" above floor
and 20" about 28" above floor
like this:

hehe, and the other cymbals'll be 16" K Custom and 13" K/Zs.

I would urge a counter weight either way with the yammy or pearl.
Both are extremely sturdy however.

scour eBay for some old Dixon stands -- some really old ones, like 70's metal ones. Those had "extendible" booms with big counterweights.
Alternatively, an older Tama Titan, the ones with a leg that "tips" inwards, could help you get in a little closer. Dunno if those go "low" enough though.

Wait, so nobody said Roadpro until Maniac did? I figured that you checked Roadpro and that it didn't suit your needs. That was the first thing i thought of.
Good luck figuring this out aaron.

You don't need a knurled boom arm if it has a memory lock:rolleyes:
maniac0796
07-30-2007, 04:53 AM
Erm, yes you do.
Because the memory lock can still slip. And it makes mounting stuff off the boom arm a bitch.
Panopticon
07-30-2007, 11:14 AM
1. Why the hell would you mount something off the boom arm?
2. no...it can't slip. Even if the mem lock wasn't on, the boom arm doesnt slip.
maniac0796
07-30-2007, 01:05 PM
I've mounted my cowbell and another boom off my boom arm...
And it might not slip for you, but it still can, and therefore is a design flaw.

lol why don't you take a look at the boom stand in person before you talk about it.
The ONLY way it will slip is if the screw holding it in place AND the mem-lock, are not tightened. And if both of those are not tightened, you deserve it if it slips.
Even if you don't tighten the screw holding the boom arm in place, and the mem-lock is tightened, it still will not slip unless the boom arm is angled downwards.

Following discussions with Damo and his cat I'm looking into Sonor 600 and 400s. Thanks guys. All suggestions have been noted and will be researched.
p.s. you need to meet his cat, it's a wealth of knowledge regarding drums. more a groove than chop player though.

Sonor 600 and 400 series are also very good stands. My only beef with them is that they are a bit heavier and a bit more expensive (where i'm from anyway). Still EXCELLENT stands though.

IIRC: The BC-2000 has a max boom length of around 30 inches or so.
