View Full Version : My bassist knocked over my piccolo snare
Now it sounds like it has a little bit less crack to it...is there anything I can do specifically to get this crack back? :p

Check the drum over throughly. It could be that it was simply knocked out of tune, or something more serious; the drum itself could be cracked, the resonating head as a tear in it, or some of the snare wires have popped or are loosened.

To get the crack back?
Hmm.. thats a tough one.
I think you should soak it in a bucket of water for a few nights, that should do the trick!
if it doesn't get back to the forums.

Yeah, bassists don't need that crack either, keep them in the low end where they belong!

Take off the heads are re-tune from scratch [feeling the bearing edge with your finger for any knocks].

How'd he knock your snare over?
I've bumbed into the cymals and ONCE a rack tom while playing with my drummer but hitting the snare would involve me actually getting behind the set...

Nah, this one was probably to the side.
I remember when my guitarist decided to stand on my bass drum... He wasn't too happy when i stood on his guitar.

I used to stand on my drummers bass drum.
I've put on a bit of weight in the last few years though...

Sh!t...forgot 51st State was on tonight!
Never seen it before either....
....this may mean I can't go skate :(
TS: I do get the feeling nothing has happened to it...but like everyone else said check it over and give it a quick tune. If that doesn't work, take the heads off, check the drum and hardware thoroughly...then its up to the situation what you do then...

Actually I've never seen the whole movie.
Just sections of it.
and the part where they're watching the liverpool game, and the guy drinks that thing that makes his stomach explode.

Put the snare in a swimming pool. If it floats it is a witch and should be burned. If it sinks, it is not a witch. Cover it in clover, hymlock and unborn frog blatters and bury it under a mighty oak tree in a white sheet for seven days. After seven days, retune the drum and all will be well.:thumb:

LMFAO.
Jokes aside you should take off both rims, heads and check the shell itself for any deforming or possible dents around lugs, inside and what not. If not, buy a PS3 head, plenty of crack there.

Have you checked the tone of each lug on the head?

haha it was pretty good tbh.
Alright, after tuning it it sounds a lot better, but I've been having this problem for months where the knob on top that loosens/tightens the snares keeps getting looser and looser every time I hit the drum. If I tape the knob to the drum it's fine, but I wish there was a way to fix it, it seems like it's gotten worse since he knocked it over.

That's what i was about to tell you was most likely the problem.
Different strainers work different ways, so I can't give you advice on fixing that.
The other thing to check is to make sure the snare wires and the cords that hold them in place are all sitting correctly.
Can you post a picture of the strainer?

You mean no crack right? Snares really shouldn't have muffling, maybe but in recording, but even then, not that much.

if he says it has crack..

^ Calm down, child. A MUFFLED SNARE HEAD is not going to have crack, overtones are what gives a drum that sort of thing.

Fair enough...
But I mean...
He SAYS what his snare does.
Surely you can't argue with that can you?
