So I have a show tomorrow, a djembe, no money, and a problem.

I need to mount my djembe on something. I have no stand, and I can't afford one!

What can I do!?!?!?!?

Do you really need it?

ask the local store if you can burrow one for the night or something. Like give him something for collateral or arrange a special deal. Maybe improvise without it? how vital is it to the show?

What can I do!?!?!?!? :confused:doesnt it have the little hips in the middle?

use your knees to hold it up and play at the same time.

Well its pretty important because we are doing an "acoustic" version of one of our songs. Also in one of our songs theres this whole psychedelic-ish jam part that I recorded hand percussion on it, and know I can finally do it live as well...

Hmm...maybe I can build one? Crap man I need ideas!

Hmmmmmmm go to the store and rent one like some dude said up there?

Sit down and play?

Does it have a strap? You could somehow tape it or hang it on a cymbal stand.

TimJim
07-27-2007, 05:55 PM
its built to be put between your knees!

try it!

Talos

You got ignored the first time.
Give up.

It'd be hard though if he is playing drums though.

oh in the middle of a set...

i see,i thought it was an acoustic set...

ok borrow a rack.

Talos
07-27-2007, 05:59 PM
Just because its acoustic it doesnt mean hes playing various hand percussion.
Acoustic sets can use kits as well you know.

TimJim
07-27-2007, 06:00 PM

Talos
07-27-2007, 06:01 PM

Use a rubbish bin upside down with like a towel lining it so it doesnt scratch the djemebe?

It might work *blank look*

TimJim
07-27-2007, 06:56 PM
thats not a bad idea...

Sunshine
07-27-2007, 06:58 PM
Does it need to be at an angle or..?

TimJim
07-27-2007, 07:00 PM
i would guess...
especially to hit the edge...

Sunshine
07-27-2007, 07:00 PM
Then putting it in a trashcan would do no good, it would still stand straight up.

TimJim
07-27-2007, 07:02 PM
put a towel under it.

put something under it.

Sunshine
07-27-2007, 07:05 PM
It would be unstable to say the least.

TimJim
07-27-2007, 07:06 PM

Sunshine
07-27-2007, 07:08 PM
Pit kid.

And even if it is just for one song, if it's unstable, what happens when it falls?

TimJim
07-27-2007, 07:09 PM

take a rope and strap it to your hi hat stand. put some kinda of cloth underneath it and strap it really tight at the bottom and loose at the top so it hangs at an angle. a small shoe box or something underneath it just for extra support. that should put it about snare drum height?

Get 2 straps with velcro on each end, a piece of foam and something to strap it too.

Pit kid? **** you. :p

I'm insulted! I have no clue why I have so much neg. But it doesn't mean anything so...whatev.

Anyway, I dunno about the djembe. I need it to be off the floor is all so that it can resonate and I can get some tone out of it.

Get someone to hold it for you. I'm sure if your band is popular enough you can find someone to be your bitch for one song. :P

you can use a snare stand.

stylers_new_account
07-28-2007, 01:27 PM
i forget where i saw this, but some guy had it in his lap while he played, he just moved his seat a little bit farther back then usual, or you could go looking for a couple cinder blocks and have the djembe just ontop of them, making sure they bottom is as open as possible.

just random ideas, hope they help.

you can use a snare stand.

I was gonna do that. But its alright guys my drum teacher gave me his conga stand. I can even tilt the drum depending on how I place it.

Now you can stop worrying. Thanks :thumb:
