View Full Version : You decide

Ok guys. You decide what I should get. I love all three of these cymbals!! But I'm not sure what to get. Prices are roughly the same:

19" Paiste 2002 crash
17" Paiste 2002 crash
17" Zildjian A Custom crash :)

Also new heads for recording. I'm still having problems (although I am yet to tune the floor toms as I like them due to time) I am thinking about buying new heads for the 12" and 16" because the coating is starting to come off. I have a basically new coated emp on the 15" floor tom. What would you guys do? Get new emps for the two toms, or getting different heads for all of them? Please help

Either one of the paiste's IMO.

They both rock

I'd say get an even number crash. They sound more mellow IMO. and generaly nicer. not that theres anything wrong with odd numbered ones

And now theres a poll i say other and get and 18"/20" 2002 crash

Oh, btw cymbal specs are as:

14" A Custom mastersounds./.14" A Mastersounds
18" K Dark Med Thin Crash
18" K Dark Thin Crash
19" Z Custom Med. Crash (on ebay being sold)
18" Oriental China Trash
21" A Sweet Ride
8" A Custom Splash

Thanks for the input so far

I got to quickly try a full set of 2002's at a gig the other day...

...wasn't THAT impressed.

Played:

14" Sound edges
16" Crash
18" Crash
22" Ride
18" Nova China...

The crashes and china were pretty sweet...the ride and hats were not quite to my liking...

I always thought the 2002 Sound Edge hats we like my dream hats judging by the soundclips on the website...but they weren't quite what I thought they'd be like in real life :upset:

Don't get me wrong, they were nice but could do with some brighter tones in there...

anyway, rant over....you can't really go wrong with the crashes. They felt very nice to play!

The A custom is going to sound different, every one of them does. So what you are asking there is for someone to blindly pick a sound for you.

If you have heard a 2002, then you have heard all of them of that type. They are the most consistent sounding cymbals on the market.

Also, your list of currently owned cymbals leads me to believe your not sure what sounds you want. K custom THIN crashes mixed with a Z custom... very different styles of music applications.

Go to the store, try out a few 17'' A customs and you'll know what I'm saying though. Lots of variety. I've used about everything over the years now, in the end I stuck with Paiste. I know that if a cymbal cracks or gets stolen I can replace it with almost the exact same sound. Somehow that comforts me..:smoke:

Hehe, remo head chip easily.

I remember playing a BP back a while, and it had a brand spanking new Remo ambassador on it, and by the time I'd finished messing around with it (10 minutes), it was already wearing out in the middle.

Do remo texture their coating (does it feel rough) or do they do it smooth?

Texture...

I've had my coated ambassador on my snare for a year now (I should change it but it still sounds so damn good!)

It's only just starting to chip in the middle after excessive gigging and practicing....

So, basically, what you're saying is, that if your consumables last for a short time, then you're a bad player.

My personal experience with Remo heads, has given me this view:

They are abso****inglutly ****.

The only good thing about them is the boxes.

17" A Custom

The choice is obvious. The A Custom line was essentially designed for ****ing Vinnie Colauita...

Alright mr other knoxville guy. Let's not start trashing cymbal brands, or at least let's not start trashing one of my favorites. You are obviously a jazz guy, the 2002's are not jazz cymbals. Try and get a K custom dark crash to cut over a half stack of dirty guitars :P

I base my opinion of a cymbal off of the way it sounds by itself.

well, I'm sure you probably got one that sounds good.

Two entities of the exact same make and model can sound different. The one's I've played have probably just not been the greatest sounding.
i.e. Every K cymbal in Guitar Center sounds like ****ing balls. Even the Constantinople's in there aren't up to par.

So there's probably an equal number of bad sounding 2002's and I've only managed to play those.
