Hi, I'm new here and I'm a massive Interpol fan, have been for years. I came from their official boards which are obviously slightly biased in favour of the band and wondered what you guys thought of them? Any opinions on the new album (Our Love to Admire) or their older stuff?
Also I would love to hear your opinion on my Interpol fansite www.interpolonline.com. I'm not here to spam you or anything, I really would value your opinions, and hope to stick around to discuss all kinds of music.
Cheers.

Interpol are such a dissapointing band.
They've released maybe 3 or 4 songs that i'd listen to and it just seems like they have the potential to make something good, but they just screw it up again and again.

Sorry I must have missed the other thread. Woodstockington, how much of them have you heard? I actually prefer their less well known songs much more than the chart successes. If you listen to songs like Leif Erikson and the Specialist they should blow you away...

I hate when I say I don't like a band and someone says "well have you heard THIS album/song?"
It's so irritating. Like when I said I didn't like Atreyu, this guy at school said I shouldn't say that until I've heard every album. I'm not going to sit through a bunch of albums of a guy sounding like he's vomiting into a microphone just to see if there's one song I can stomach for more than five seconds.
I'm pretty neutral on Interpol, they have a few songs I like but most of the time they're just Joy Division lite for me.

I like Interpol. In saying that I have little interest in checking out the new record (if it happens, it happens) because I know that it won't be as good as previous stuff (by that I mean Bright Lights). The new single just yells "big time attempt" and we all know that w/ a band such as Interpol - **** gon' go south.

I liked Bright Lights and Antics a lot. I havent checked out the new album yet though.

I've listened to both Antics and Bright Lights

I have the Antics album. It has several good songs on it, despite some mediocre tracks. I've never listened to Bright Lights all the way through, what I've heard of it was good. I've yet to hear anything off the new album.
Specialist, however, is a downright amazing song.

i like their sound. they are a one trick pony so far but it's a pretty darn good trick imo. they lean heavily on their influences: joy division, the chameleons.

I'd be okay if they never made music again, really. I'm not much for bands that create the same song over and over, but I guess I'm biased.
I like Interpol, but IMO they are sort of boring and redundant. Agreed with others that it seems like they have the potential to be something special but just can't quite get there. Solid live.

it has amazing instrumentation in the verse... then the slightly annoying chorus kicks in. :smoke:

found the new album^
so why do you like them?
They have redeeming qualities. I like their sound a lot, and the instrumentation can be excellent at times. I can't think of any band that I love that I don't have at least one problem with.

That's a very good description. But I won't buy the new album. Two are enough.
