What are some of the coolest/most unusual/most memorable places you've ever played performed?

In the past week I got two gigs playing on board the USS Sequoia, which used to be the President's private yacht from 1930-1970ish, and man was that unusual. But really, really cool. Nothing like playing on the deck of a moving boat.

I played in a St John's Cathedral in Brisbane once.

It was a "Jazz Mass" to farewell to Anglican Bishops who were retiring. Funny thing is I'm really not overly religious. Also the acoustics were fairly strange, echoy to say the least.

I've played at a YMCA...
Not a gig, but I was bored on a bus journey once so I whipped it out. Then I got my bass out. Then I got my bass guitar out.

Best so far was just getting a nice stage with a fancy lightshow. Going 'on tour' in Cornwall in a few days with a band I'm subbing for so I'll update if I play any nice joints there.

Well I havent played many unusual places but I've played some big ones!

I think The Arches in Glasgow is the biggest venue I've played in so far but on the 1st of September my band are playing The Barrowlands which is such an honour. Anyone in the Glasgow area should come along and see me rip up the stage

Coolest place I've played is The Arthouse, a backpackers/pub that's a Melbourne alternative music institution. So many bands both local and international have played there over the years, and it's a really intimate venue. Could just feel the history as soon as I walked on the stage.

I played, uh...
I've got nothing.

I've played a gig and about to play another in a baptist church, which is kind of weird only in the sense that I have never actually been to a church service in my life otherwise...

...I've got nothing.

Heh, the band I'm subbing for is a christian rock band and I've never been to a church service in my life either, I thought it'd be weird gigging with them but they are pretty cool and the music is quite good, turns out cristians are normal people after all!

Yeah, everyone there is really nice. The gig I played was a Christmas concert anyways, so it wasn't even all that religious.

we generally just play in pubs/clubs. but the most memorable part of a gig was when about 5 fights broke out while we played "Madman" from Silverchair. crowd was going nuts...
also had a bomb threat one night and had to evacuate the club!!! aahh.. good times

Best gig was in a Conservative club (as in the political party). One side was full of old men smoking pipes and the other full of kids to see their friends punk band who invited us to play. They had these tiny amps and like 100W PA

We took down all our own stuff - guitar/bass stacks + our PA and got banned from the place because pictures fell off the wall in the house next door and they called the police... Awesome

A gay bar.

Well, it hosted gay nights, but this night wasn't one of them, emo night though it seemed like...

Lorry in pouring rain on bonfire night x2 as well.

Let's see...

Probably not the weirdest place I've played, but there's a small town near my home city called Elmira.

I played a little gig there about four years back that was basically a "percussion education workshop" for the students involved with the annual SEARS Drama Festival.

Basically, there was two drum kits set up, and for some songs to show different elements of drums, I was on bass and another on guitar.

The reason it was odd was simply because drama students of Class 2003 are odd, odd people.

We also stepped out to eat at one point, one to a restaurant, and like, 30 people were all "YEAAAAH!!!" when we walked in with clapping.

That was an odd day.

Made more money doing that gig however than I've EVER made from music.

The Jazz Showcase, which is (was?) one of the major jazz clubs in Chicago. Lots of really famous people played on that stage, so it was a really magical experience.

Seriously cool. And it was before they moved it for the second time.

I've headlined there with my previous band.

We pulled in the largest number of people for a local show ever as of last October. I have no idea if that's changed or not, but yeah.

Good f*cking times

In some kids backyard in front of 80 people. It was like a summer party thing called bananafest, there was another one the summer after that but my band wasn't really gigging at the time so we missed out.

coolest place was right before I quit playing a while back. It was a Les Deux Etages, a nice jazz club thats on two stories, kinda looks like an Opera hall. That was a magical experience.

I wish my town had venues like that, all of our places in my town are not aloud to host shows since to much destruction happens because of the "punks".

Havic,Thats so awesome that would have been fun.

Coolest place I've played is a yearly outdoor festival.

It's called the YAMJAM, don't ask me why. It's pretty much a standard outdoor gig, but other than those, all i've ever played in was inside venues.

Pics!

That was before my haircut, and the theft of that bass. At least I got one show in with it.

my band played at a local park for a fund raiser this year and the ampitheater we were set up in was basically a scaled down roman colloseum. i was kinda waiting for the lions and Russel Crowe but it never happened. aside form that weve basically played normal venues, parties and a couple firehalls. firehalls are big in Ohio apaprently. we play classic rock type stuff and once we got stuck in the middle of a bunch of emo bands at a show. the crowd didnt much care for us....or happiness and such in general

I might come actually, what's your bands name? Any chance of a site to check out?

But anyway, back to the topic at hand. I've played at a fairly big local festival in scotland called Big In Falkirk with a band, sadly that was our last gig but at least we went out on a career high eh? :P
