I was listening to Leonard Cohen before I got into Tom Waits
:-/
just cause he's canadian (and jewish) doesn't mean he's not acknowledged.

I listen to Tom Waits and Leonard Cohen but i don't listen to Lou Reed. I plan to check out some more of his stuff other then Perfect Day :)
I used to compare Waits and Cohen but not so much of late, mainly because they have a poetic quality to their lyrics. After listening to a lot of Tom Waits he seems a lot more focused on complex musical arrangements with a lot of his music where what i have heard of Leonard Cohen appears to use simple musical structures as a vehicle for his words. I haven't heard everything he has to offer yet though so i don't know.
I've listened to The Songs of Leonard Cohen, Songs of Love & Hate and The Future. The Future is my favourite album of his i'm yet to warm to his earlier albums fully as much as i like it.

I listen to Tom Waits lots, but I've never really listened to Leonard Cohen, not really sure why. My friend loves him heaps, I'll probably give a good listen soon.

I've heard Songs of Leonard Cohen, and it's pretty great. I also know a guy who's a huge fan of him.

I don't get the comparison. Cohen is his own man, as are Reed and Waits. Cohen is brilliant though, you can start anywhere really, but a good trial is the original best of they had out.

I have his "Best Of" on cassette tape, but have to listen to it. I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy, considering how well-respected and influential the man is.

<3 Waits
<3 Reed
<3 Cohen
Anyone who hasn't listened to them should stop what they are doing immediately and go find some. Now. Do it.
