Hey all =D

I'm not exactly a wimpy guy (5'8", 180 lbs), but I'm not big and brolic either. I prefer the look of smaller bodied basses. I'm going to be honest and say that aesthetics play a large role in selecting a bass (for me and probably more of you than you'd like to admit), so help me out here!

I've played Thumbs, Cort Curbows, etc. Any other suggestions for smaller bodied basses that I should try out?

Dependant entirely on shape, body wood, headstock size, weight of tuners etc...

What price range?

Indeed.

With the exception of the MVP, Pedulla comes to mind. They're not as small as the Thumb or Curbow, but they're fairly small and very well balanced.

I believe schecters have pretty small bodies.

Oh an aesthetics are a huge factor in choosing a bass.

I have a vintage V940 bass, tiny tiny body, plays like a beast. Bit on the heavy side though due to being bubinga but it looks stunning imo.

Tobias's have small bodies, but they aren't light either. Plus they are quite pricey.

Thats why I asked about price range hehe, I have a Rapture and the body is pretty small and the balance is perfect :thumb:

If you don't mind me asking, how much did it set you back? I've seen some pretty weird price ranges when it comes to those.

It was used when I bought it, I'm not entirely sure how much it cost after customs but the bass (without postage/customs) was like $800.

Yeah, well I've got a Fender Jazz and a Warwick Double Buck but find myself using my Rockbass Corvette when Im onstage. Trying to move about with a bass is so much harder than moving about with just an electric so to keep up with my guitarists I use my lightest bass.

The tone obviously doesnt match my other basses but id rather put on a better show than have a better tone

Why hasn't anyone referenced a Steinberg bass (XL1, XL2, Synapse, etc.)? Between those and the Status Streamline I can't think of a bass with a smaller body.

I second the Pedulla Rapture. Such nice basses. Shame they're so hard to find though, at least around here.

I'd hardly call a bass that can be purchased at Guitar Center hard to find. If they don't have one in stock just ask them to order one :thumb:

His MySpace profile says he's from Canada.

We don't have Guitar Center.

It is true, those things are just a neck with pickups on them. I want an original one.

Ugh, now I'm wanting a Steinberger again. Thanks Edge.

Other options:

Schecter (some are small)

I think the Steinberger is TOO small. Meh. Seems hardly comfterble, even up high.

Radiobass81

I like them a lot. You don't think about the actual bass too much when playing, you just play. You won't bang anything with the headstock, no neck-dive, no sore shoulders, etc.

Mm, maybe if I could get my hands on an older graphite necked Spirit... the L series doesn't do it for me aesthetically.

Radiobass81
07-19-2007, 07:04 AM
Graphite-neck Spirit? Is there even such a thing?

The Spirit line is composed of all-wood models.

EDIT: Bleh, I'm going to pick one up. I'll ATLEAST use it as the bass to haul around when not at gigs (I don't like taking my 'Ray everywhere).

I'm 5'7", and do just fine. The trick is to get a good strap and wear it high enough until you don't get fatigued. Looks are meaningless if your back is hurting. Also, you don't want a light bass - it'll sound like a toy no matter what you do with it unless it has at least 7-8lbs worth of mass behind it.

As for size and neck issues, I used to have a Carvin(getting a new one to replace it - long story) and it was fantastic. Very small neck radius and spacing. Never felt tired from using it. The BB70 is perfect, IMO - it has a longer "horn" up top so it balances correctly - no neck-dive. But it's not that cheap, either.

Yeah fairly difficult to find in the UK apart from Mansons.

Gibson Grabbers have a small, light body.

Radiobass81
07-23-2007, 06:27 PM
They aren't any ligher than your average bass. They have a big body, it's just pretty thin, but it'ss still 9lbs, maybe a bit more.
