Alright, so I'm using a Vox Tonelab to record into Cubasis VST 4.0 (A lighter version of cubase I'm told) and after recording a track that sounds pretty good, I export it as a wav-file and open it up in a accompaning audio-editor, WaveLab editor. So I slap on a few EQ plugins and stereoexpanders etc to beef up the sound, but when I save the file it's the same as before I edited it. I've been checking all over the place for a cause, and reading the manual but I can't figure out whats going on.

On the same note, can anyone recommend any other programms that you could do this with? Audio editing, adding effects and EQs etc..

Cubase should let you edit, mix and pre-master; mine does. Wavelab is a mastering program. Just do all EQ, effects, mixing, etc. in Cubase.
