Yeah, so I was waiting for the next Matchday to unveil this, but since that doesn't seem soon, I figured I might as well post this now. Here's a funk/rock tune I've been stewing over for a while. It's called "Piece of Mind" and it's quite funky.

Definitely funky. Fun melody.
Felt a little repetitive. All of the writing sounded really good, but I not sure about the orchestration. I think a wider variety in timbres would have helped it a lot. At times it felt sort of mushy at times because so many of the sounds were familiar. It sounds like bass, drums, and a much of similar high noises.
Otherwise it was very good.

Yeah, I agree, it is a bit repetative, but so is the genre of funk, which is what I was trying to emulate. Take James Brown for example, that's some crazy repetative music. Good music, but it just keeps repeating on and on and on.

Unfortunately, the timbral problem is something that I can't really fix on Mp3. In the uncompressed file that I have, it sounds a lot clearer, and all the different synths, organ, piano and violin are much crisper and more defined. Because I had to compress it for myspace, everything blurs together now into kind of a big soup. Which actually, I don't mind so much, since I was going for the lo-fi gritty sound (especially with the drums), but whatever floats your boat.

Yeah, I don't doubt that the timbral issues are due to the compression and even just the quality of the samples.
Overall I liked it.

This would be such an awesome jam song. I had an uncontrollable to get up with you and play it.

Man, that was FUNKY. Very good work, a good finger funk solo in it would have been sweet near the end.

I like it. Like someone said earlier, it would be a great jam song as well. Nice job with the arrangement.

Yeah, believe me I was tempted to include one in the final version, but all the solos I recorded didn't really sound as cool as the synth solo I played. It unfortunately got buried in the compression, though, but again, I don't mind, since it still sounds pretty tasty.

Really cool havic. I actually thought you coulda held that main riff for longer. Never had time to check out that picture comp, but I listened to chinese winter, and wow did you ever capture that pic well! No doubt in my mind you won that one eh, good job. Your truly a great musician already. I'll have to listen to the other songs later.

anyways, as usual, not my bag; but great job. it sounds good, and that is a nice melody. only complaint i have is that the bass tone is a bit dull, and the drums are too tight. flam it up pipe.

EDIT: WHERE THE **** ARE MY HAPPY LITTLE ELVES.
