So, I'm looking for a decent but fairly cheap (300 canadian ish) short scale bass for my little sister to start on. Any body got any suggestions? shes only 12 so even 34 inch is to much for her.

That's a great suggestion. Even though it's a cheap Squier bass, it's awesome because it's only a 30'' scale. A very good beginner bass, IMO.
