good question.
I think i've heard before to turn your mids up on your amp. I may be wrong, but try it.

Also, it you've got a bass with multiple pickups, solo the bridge.

a compressor/limiter works absolute wonders, too.

As everyone else said loads of mids, to much treble makes harmonics sound weak. And a compressor/sustainer does wonders too.

the BP200 has an on-board compressor. mess with it. that's all about you can do though, that is, mess with it. it's fairly worthless.

That's because it's the BP200.

so what other pedals would you suggest then? just any run of the mill compressor?
well, no. first of all, and it's just my opinion, but i wouldn't get a compressor in pedal form. for me, compression is not an "effect" that i'd only utilize for a song, or portion of a song. i want it on all the time. so i have one that just sits atop my amp, the PreSonus BlueMax (which i'd recommend). although i'll be replacing it in the near future for something that's rack-mountable.
also, i'd steer clear of compressors that have very few controls. that is to say, if it doesn't have at least a control for threshold and ratio, i wouldn't get it; or if it's just one of those stomp boxes that has one big knob that says COMPRESSION...eh, no, not for me.
of course, i have run across a couple tube compressor rack units, with few controls, that are very nice; but again, not for me because of the less handle you have over them.

there's nothing wrong with pedal compressors, i have one (carl martin) and i find it amazing, i leave it on all the time, and as far as controls its got threshold, ratio, attack/release times (in one knob), and gain, and it's transparent as ****

given my near complete ignorance of compression... would that go some way towards saving your "normal" bass tone? i hate the sound of high mids and treble on my bass, and i rarely just use harmonics (actually, does anyone?), playing over a solo bridge pick does work wonders tho...
i guess the problem of balancing the eq so that normal notes and harmonics both sound good is never really going to go away tho...

never said anything was wrong with them, but personally i wouldn't have one.
